#Bristol bus driver Carlos Santos has unveiled a #defibrillator in Broad Quay, where his colleague Richard Dewdney suffered a fatal cardiac arrest in December. Carlos, supported by Turtle Bay, raised funds for the life-saving device in Richard’s memory. He also launched BristolResus4All, a not-for-profit aiming to install and maintain public defibrillators city-wide so no one is more than a three-minute return walk from help. With nearly 400 people dying from heart attacks each week in the UK, Carlos—who has 18 years’ experience as a driver and former Special Constable—believes many lives can be saved with faster access to defibs and better public CPR awareness. The Broad Quay defibrillator was used within 12 hours of installation. First Bus and Richard’s family praised Carlos’s efforts, calling it a fitting tribute. Richard, who joined First Bus in 2022, was described as loving, hardworking and unforgettable. A plaque now commemorates him at the site.
