File under “Poor Life Choices”:

I stayed up way too late last night catching up on ironing my work clothes (AKA public servant drag) while watching “Vegas in Space”, because #Queer #history and all that.

Major respect to these Queens for turning out amazing #drag on a budget despite all the hardships they went through to make this #movie, but… it makes #Barbarella look like #Shakespear.

OTOH, I’ve now seen another origin for some of the shade that contemporary Queens sling out.

Gena/Jenna Marvin is a Russian performance artist known for surreal + creature drag. Their art attempts to bring awareness to social + political issues while exploring different forms of beauty

In 2022, Marvin took refuge in Paris after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This transition is documented in the 2023 film Queendom, directed by Agniia Galdanova

So I'm again/still obsessing over drag king - the logistics of how I could pull it off as a disabled person (could I hold a crowd's attention while doing my entire act seated?) plus making my musical tastes fit into the drag scene. For example: I was checking out some Roxy Music videos and now I'm jazzed by the idea of performing to a medley of Do the Strand and Both Ends Burning (they're even in the same key and tempo!). Not sure if the world is ready for a non-skinny all-seated Bryan Ferry homage, but part of me is tempted by the idea of rolling onstage in a tailored suit and modish black hair wig, taking a seat onstage, and kicking into
"There's a new sensation
A fabulous creation
A danceable solution
To teenage revolution..."
I dunno ... what do you folks out in Mastodon-land think of this madness?
