Do you use a reference manager, such as Zotero or Endnote? The Utrecht University Library would like to help you better use and manage references. That is why we would like to learn which tools you use.

You can help us by completing this survey: survey.uu.nl/jfe/form/SV_8J4cQ

Invullen duurt 2-3 minuten.

Cheers for open-source software! (again and again)
I'm in the process of moving a large and long-standing #Endnote-library to #Zotero:
The translator for endnote-xml got 86% of items right - but still, 1,800 items needed to be checked manually.
Editing the translator and running it again got the percentage up to 94% - only 680 items to go \o/

It's all too clear, isn't it. #WebOfScience would like the status quo to not change at all – they are profiting enormously from it. Whereas scientists would like the status quo to change – our grants are being drained dry from publishing fees, our libraries are also drained dry from subscription fees, and academic administrators spend countless moneys on bibliometrics supplied by Clarivate to "evaluate" academics for their "throughput" – in quotes because using these words for what they actually do (counting papers and citations) is a perversion.

By the way #Clarivate owns #EndNote, #Publons and #ScholarOne – we really ought to not use *any* of these. It's in our power.

And once again, EndNote consistently displays incomprehensible warnings that mean SFA to the average punter. I wasn't even using EndNote - this is their 19thC hypersensitive MS Word plugin aunt needing the smelling salts after a fainting attack... FFS

#EndNote, for the love of the language, please get someone who can write these warnings so they make sense.

#Zotero #EndNote EndNote Comments appreciated. Testing functionality so our team can decide what to use. Zotero saves references well but seems worse for WYSIWYG in documents. Insertion of citation seems slow for Zotero. Default option just seems to hang. If I switch to classic view I can see my folders and choose a citation and things work ok from there. EndNote I could choose a citation and insert it with one click, does not seem to be a Zotero option. Feedback?

🧵 7/ #ResearchSupportPartnershipUiO Lastly, I spread the Gospel of Zotero and converted two, if not three, new disciples who want to move from #Endnote to #Zotero. I shared a step-by-step guide with them and made myself available for guidance if and when need be.
One aspect of my #DigitalResearchActivities support and guidance is general help with applications that cause great frustration and annoyance, like #MicrosoftTeams and how to use it across organisations. Great to have been of help!
