I don't care how many protest events you've been to, I don't care if you've spent time at blockades & got arrested either, don't care how much content you post online about caring about the environment IF -> you still choose to fly all over Canada for leisurely trips & when not flying everywhere, you choose to drive all across BC & across Canada, you choose to overconsume material items & create more unnecessary waste - you are part of the problems & not really a part of the solutions.

The above listed selfish human behaviours are not what any serious environmentalist engages in. It's what performative folks engage in - they film themselves multiple times daily to get views online on multiple sites. Their self worth is tied to their online life/likes. I do not enjoy being around high hypocrisy, dishonest, self absorbed, irresponsible people like that & avoid them as much as possible. I tend to adhere tightly to my standards of association & don't let unsavory selfish folks stay around me. I oust them fast & have not felt bad about it. Being cautiously careful about the company we choose to keep around us is a pretty big part of our self care as well.

#ThrowbackThursday
4 years ago, I first met this gentle giant.
It's one of the only older Western red #cedar #trees left at #W̱MÍYEŦEN #NatureSanctuary. Most of the land had been logged more than once before it was acquired for conservation & rewilding. This is a 2nd growth cedar & it is over 150 yrs old.

The W̱MÍYEŦEN #Nature Sanctuary is a 42 acre protected forest and riparian area that supports biodiversity while preserving ecosystems and wildlife habitat. The tranquil natural environment, inspires an awareness of nature as teacher and essential ally.

wmiyetennaturesanctuary.com/

I'm a member of this local, biodiverse nature sanctuary. They mainly rely on memberships & public donations. They work with #Indigenous leaders/educators/naturalists from #Wsanec First Nations. The name was changed from the former Mary Lake Sanctuary to W̱MÍYEŦEN Nature Sanctuary to respect that the property is on native lands.

#ThickTrunkTuesday

This beautiful, ancient yellow #cedar tree has a massive, moss covered trunk. It is estimated at over 500 years old. There are very few #ElderTrees of this scale found outside of protected parks on Southern Vancouver Island now. The few remaining unprotected old growth forest tracts should be conserved for stability & longevity of our wild, ancient ecosystems & for the future generations to enjoy/admire/study.

The need to protect old growth forests has been the case for decades but even more important in present times because of accelerated climate change & the increased greedy desperation of corporate ecociders & our governments who aid/abet the pillaging which destroys wild environments that are essential for humans to sustain our lives on Earth. Valuable medicines are found & several medicines have yet to be found in these old growth, coastal temperate, wild rainforests. We need to protect these ancient forests for the above listed & many more important reasons.

"Early poems about #Merlin portray him as #environmentalist, say scholars

Re-examination of #Welsh poems dating back to 10th century show #Myrddin as prophet concerned by human interactions with #Nature

by Steven Morris
Tue 25 Feb 2025 07.13 EST

"He is probably most often thought of today as a wizard, a shape-shifter or a mentor to the young King Arthur.

"But a detailed re-examination of Myrddin – Merlin – by Welsh scholars suggests he can also be considered an early British environmentalist deeply worried about human interaction with the natural world.

"Over the past three years academics from three Welsh universities have edited and translated more than 100 poems, all in Cymraeg (Welsh), about Merlin dating back as far as the 10th century.

"David Callander, who is based at Cardiff University’s school of Welsh, said some of the conclusions of the Myrddin Poetry Project challenged the modern view of the figure."

Trump taps #OilIndustry insider to oversee drilling on #PublicLands

#BureauOfLandManagement nominee #KathleenSgamma heads a #FossilFuel industry trade group that sued the Biden administration over a landmark #conservation rule.

By Maxine Joselow

"President Donald #Trump has nominated oil and gas advocate #KathleenSgamma to lead the Interior Department’s Bureau of Land Management, the agency tasked with managing millions of acres of public lands and waters for the benefit of all Americans.

"The nomination of Sgamma, who heads a Denver-based oil and gas industry trade group called the #WesternEnergyAlliance, heralds a seismic shift in the management of roughly 245 million acres of public property — about one-tenth of the nation’s land mass.

"If confirmed by the Senate, she would be a key architect of Trump’s #DrillBabyDrill agenda alongside Interior Secretary and '#EnergyCzar' #DougBurgum. An MIT graduate who previously worked in consulting, she has advocated for the BLM to prioritize oil and gas drilling, #HardrockMining and #livestock grazing on public lands nationwide.

"A spokesman for Sgamma did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

"During his first term, Trump tapped conservative lawyer William Perry Pendley to lead the BLM on an acting basis. But Trump never nominated Pendley, a vocal advocate of selling off public lands, to helm the agency on a permanent basis, prompting a rebuke from a federal judge.

"President Joe Biden in 2021 chose Tracy Stone-Manning, a prominent Montana-based #environmentalist, to lead the BLM. Earlier in her career, Stone-Manning worked on conservation policy at the #NationalWildlifeFederation and led Montana’s Department of Environmental Quality.

"Under Biden, the BLM finalized a landmark rule that sought to put conservation, #recreation and #RenewableEnergy development on equal footing with #ResourceExtraction on public lands. Sgamma’s Western Energy Alliance filed a lawsuit challenging that rule, which the Trump administration is expected to overturn.

"In an interview with The Washington Post in April, Sgamma criticized the regulation for allowing ranchers, renewable-energy developers and other interests to lease federal lands for the purpose of #conservation and #HabitatRestoration.

"We have no choice but to litigate,' she said. 'These conservation leases seem to be designed to preclude energy development on federal lands.'

#Environmentalists criticized #Sgamma’s nomination.

"'This choice shows that the new administration will leave no favor ungranted for the oil and gas industry and the wealthy #FossilFuel #executives who funded Trump’s campaign,' #AlanZibel, oil and gas research director with the liberal advocacy group #PublicCitizen, said in an email.

"#JeffEshelman, president and #CEO of the Independent Petroleum Association of America, which represents small oil producers, praised Sgamma’s selection while critiquing the Biden administration."

The Washington Post · Trump taps oil industry insider to oversee drilling on public landsBy Maxine Joselow

GetUp!’s attacks on @WePlanetAus highlight the desperation of legacy anti-nuclear groups clinging to outdated dogma. For years, they’ve positioned themselves as gatekeepers of the environmental movement, but the world is moving on. Nuclear energy is now a central part of serious discussions about Australia’s clean energy future.

Let’s be clear: WePlanet Australia is a grassroots movement of scientists, environmentalists, and everyday citizens. They aren’t tied to any industry or government groups, and they don’t take corporate donations. Everything they do is powered by people who believe in fact-based solutions to the climate crisis.

GetUp pioneered innovative grassroots activism, and for that, they deserve credit. But their views on nuclear energy—and their attacks on those who challenge them—are wrong. While they cling to fear and outdated stereotypes, we’re championing modern nuclear energy as a zero-carbon complement to renewables like wind and solar.

They’ve run successful campaigns on nuclear energy, modern plant breeding, golden rice, and alternative proteins—because the future is built on hope, optimism, and science-backed solutions. The public supports our work because they see the need for evidence-based approaches to solving the climate crisis.

It’s disappointing to see GetUp distort facts and attack fellow environmentalists, but it won’t stop us. Australia is closer than ever to overturning its decades-old nuclear ban, and we’re on the verge of winning. Together, we can build a clean, sustainable future powered by truth, not fear.

Up there in Fairy Creek they are fighting for the ancient forest from high in the trees on platforms rigged of rope and wood the chainsaws from Mulo just could send them falling
Brave protectors of the Fairy Creek blockade, this song's for you.

I believe in the good things coming
I believe in the love that lives on this earth Of Brazilian bodies
I am here to receive, I am here to give
Stay brave, protectors of the Fairy Creek blockade
A hundred elders marched the dawn up a hill to stand upon a holy grove of trees
Older than the Notre Dame
Past picket lines and ATVs they sang for the land they wished to leave home for their children's children
Singing I believe in the good things coming
I believe in the love that lives on this earth the Brazilian bodies
I am here to receive I am here to hear
Stay brave, protectors of Fairy Creek
There's a war been going on through the soul of the world since the break of dawn, how do we share this land we stand upon?

I am a newborn to this place
Though I've lived here all my life
My ancestors came across the sea to stand for what they thought was right they broke trust treaties too can't unright the past is true
But I'm here to understand and stand with you Singing I believe in the good things
I believe in the love that lives on this earth of resilient bodies
I am here to receive, I am here to give
Stay brave, protectors of the Fairy Creek blockade
My whole story is in my heart
Gentle as they fall apart the land remembers more than I ever will
Still I'm here to witness this
Brave ones high up in the trees the sweetness of your farewell kiss the gentle of the morning breeze what stories will they tell of me
One day soon that's all will be
Amid a distant memory what stories will they tell?

And today we sing
I believe in the good things
I believe in the love that lives on this earth of Brazil.

I'm having issues trying to upload a 12 minutes interview vid of me talking at Fairy Creek Blockade - to my YouTube account. It is about why I went to the blockade & why I've spent over 3 decades of my life on Vancouver Island trying to get old growth protected as part of the longterm battle for overdue & necessary #BCForestryReform. Part of it is due to seeing what ecocide did to our matriarch family's village & lands/waters overseas in South Vietnam.
I'll try to upload the file again in a bit.
