Well, according to this 
(public) #media headline those "numerous dead" ("zahlreiche Tote") weren't even "killed" (let alone murdered, slain or slaughtered), but rather "died" or "lost their lives". There is no exact translation of the #euphemism they used ("ums Leben [kommen]") but the point is that it is an euphemism meant to cover up the brutality and the barbarity.
"#tagesschau" is the "leading" news show in #Germany and it's produced by the number one (public) broadcaster.
