That's why I've long thought the most sustainable way for the #fediverse to grow is at the edges.

Every person who wants to lead their people out of the DataFarms knows what matters to their community, and what pain points or new possibilities might motivate them to shift to community-controlled tech. We know which services are needed, and what apps will appeal. We know how to support transition.

I wrote about this back in 2023;

Those failures, #JDVance said, included efforts to restrict #misinformation & other content on #socialmedia & laws against #abortion protests that he said unfairly silenced #Christians.
Perhaps most strikingly, the VP called on Europe to drop their opposition to working w/anti-#immigration parties, calling them a legitimate expression of the will of voters angered by high levels of migration over the last decade.

If you thought colonial era #evangelism which led to the partition of #Palestine and the creation of #Israel was awful …

#Hegseth opposes the two-state solution, supports exclusive Israeli sovereignty, and has spoken of the "miracle" of rebuilding the Third Temple in Jerusalem.

Experts note that Pete Hegseth’s tattoos and political views align with Christian nationalism and Reformed Reconstructionism, a fringe denomination known for its affinity with the Crusades.

Established by R.J. Rushdoony in 1965, Christian Reconstructionism is a movement asserting that biblical law should govern all aspects of society and that Christians are mandated to "take dominion" over every sphere of life. Emerging in the US in the 1960s, it gained traction within the Christian Right by advocating for theonomy, homeschooling, and patriarchal family structures.

“Since court rulings are not laws & only legislatures elected by the people may pass laws, #Obergefell is an illegitimate overreach,” the resolution reads. It continues: “The Idaho Legislature calls upon the Supreme Court of the United States to reverse Obergefell & restore the *natural* definition of #marriage, a union of one man & one woman” [tell that to the Mormons]

That has not deterred lawmakers in #Idaho, however. This week, a State House cmte overwhelmingly passed a resolution calling on #SCOTUS to undo #ObergefellVHodges, the landmark 2015 decision that gave same-sex couples the right to marry….

The resolution would still need approval by the full House & the ID Senate before any request could be sent to #SCOTUS. Both chambers in ID are controlled by #Republicans.

I find this article fascinating, horrifying even. In some respects it's like looking at an alien culture; in other respects, it's stupidly familiar. It lays out the aspects of the problem and why what is happening in the world is so insidious. It's funny, when people think they are fighting for freedom and what they are fighting for is to be under the thumb of someone who treats them as unfit to think for themselves.

The New Republic · Why the Christian Right Demonizes DiscourseTheir toxic fear of ideas is shaping the modern censorship movement.

1. I grew up evangelical Christian half a world away. In the late 60s, Billy Graham and his ilk looked at the hippie and anti-war movement with disgust and thought ‘we better get our people elsewhere’. It was modern day colonialism and conversion. What they were selling was access to ‘modernism’ and ‘progress’. They intersected heavily with Asian countries’ post-war anxieties and told them speaking English and becoming Christian was the route to money.

@Angle @wes As Ferris said, "Macs are so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend it."

What if computing, but didn't suck all the time? (it sucks sometimes, because it's computers)

FreeBSD is relatively amazing, and much lighter and more open. The people aren't scumbags or abusers. Best of all, it's not full of GNU shit, /bin/true has no --help or --version flags, etc.

The docs are actually good.
