Did you know that there's an #extinct #dog breed that made meat tasty?
Before modern ovens, meat was turned over an open fire to cook evenly.
In the 16th c., a dog breed was developed, named the turnspit, that would run in a #wheel hoisted high on a kitchen wall to do this job.
On Sundays, the turnspit served as a foot warmer in church. One anecdote states that the mere mention of a "wheel" in a sermon once, made the dogs run away in anguish...
