#Berlin has reported a marked increase in attacks on asylum seekers and refugee shelters, amid a sharp rise in far-right crime and a hardening of German migration policy.

Official figures provided at the request of two local Green party lawmakers showed there were 77 assaults on asylum seekers and #refugees in 2024 and eight instances of deliberate damage to residences housing them.

This compares with 32 targeted attacks on people and none on residences in 2023, one of the deputies, Ario Ebrahimpour Mirzaie, told the news agency dpa.

As a result of the assaults, 34 people needed treatment in hospital, according to the official data. These included 16 women, 14 men, two girls and two males whose age was not reported.

“The number of insults, threats and attacks against refugees has been worryingly high for years and it is outrageous that these conditions are accepted with a shrug by many politicians and members of the public,”

The Conservative leader, Friedrich Merz, who is due to be sworn in as chancellor on 6 May, campaigned on dramatically tightening border policy and bringing irregular immigration to a halt, after stricter measures already undertaken by the centre-left-led predecessor government.

The Guardian · Berlin reports rise in attacks on refugees amid surge in far-right crimeBy Deborah Cole

Marine Le Pen and 24 of her fascist party members, including nine former members of the European parliament and their 12 parliamentary assistants, were found guilty of a vast scheme over many years to embezzle European parliament funds, by using money earmarked for European parliament assistants to instead pay party workers in France.

Judge Benedicte de Perthuis, reading the verdict of the panel of three justices, said Le Pen had been "at the heart" of the scheme. The judge said that while Le Pen and other co-defendants didn't enrich themselves personally, the embezzlement was "a democratic bypass" that deceived the parliament and voters.

The so-called fake jobs system covered parliamentary assistant contracts between 2004 and 2016, and was unprecedented in scale and duration, causing losses of €4.5m (£3.8m) to European taxpayer funds.

Meanwhile Le Pen, her gang and all right-wing dickheads across the world are crying like babies for ‘denial of democracy’. What a bunch of hypocrites!
Obran, Trump, Milei & their ilks have proven there is less democracy once these fascists have a seat.

'JD Vance breaks taboo by meeting with leader of Germany’s far-right party'

"At the meeting in Munich on Friday, the US vice-president and AfD leader, Alice Weidel, reportedly discussed the war in Ukraine, German domestic politics and the so-called brandmauer, or “firewall against the right”

"Vance did not meet with Olaf Scholz, the German chancellor who should be among the US’ key partners in negotiations with Russia over the future of the war in Ukraine. “We don’t need to see him, he won’t be chancellor long,” one former US official told Politico of the Vance team’s approach."

Unbelievable, such an affront.

Basically, #antisemitism was replaced by obsequious #philosemitism, which turns out to be just the brighter side of the same coin, and denazification was only very superficial, not just in Germany, but everywhere else it had spawned. Basically, the old world of the #extremeright never died. It just kept lurking from under our beds, ready to jump at the forefront, with the freaking faces of #Musk or #Trump.

I have a hunch, though I hope I'm wrong, that the AfD will win significantly more votes in the German elections than current polls indicate, and may even end up as the largest party, at +/- 30%.

It would be the US, Austrian and Dutch elections redux.

Indicators for this scenario:
- AfD discursively dominates the campaign. All other parties make the mistake of amplifying its talking points, especially Merz's Christian Democrats and Lindner's (Neo)Liberals. While the CDU campaigns on law and order and the FDP on economic liberalism, the AfD offers both in one package.
- Elon Musk has normalized Weidel, making her the clear leader and public face of the party for the first time.
- Weidel is now leading the polls for chancellor.
