grayrattus<p>So I came up with this idea of cheap, <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/federated" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>federated</span></a> social network based only on emails. </p><p>It works kind of like a <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/mailing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mailing</span></a> list with small change that all lists are federated and web apps capture their content which is merged together.</p><p>FUUUUUUUUUCK, setting up <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/procmail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>procmail</span></a>, <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/mailhog" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mailhog</span></a> and all other shit to test it is like walking through PinkPop on molly during Electic Callboy performence. </p><p>WHY?! Fedipedia<p>Introducing <a href="https://fedipedia.org" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">fedepedia.org</a>!</p><p>This is a federated wiki instance powered by <a href="https://github.com/Nutomic/ibis" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">ibis</a>. My goal is to collect and organize some Fediverse-related content here, but I'm totally cool with it hosting other entries too :)</p><p>Since it's federated, anyone from any instance (as long as that instance isn’t blocked) can edit entries here. That said, since there aren’t any articles yet, you'll need to register on this instance and create one before you can start editing.</p><p>This account will be sharing more updates about the instance. I really hope I can keep it running for a while so that it at least becomes another simple Fediverse wiki :P</p><p><a href="https://gotosocial.social/tags/ibis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ibis</span></a> <a href="https://gotosocial.social/tags/fedi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fedi</span></a> <a href="https://gotosocial.social/tags/fediverse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fediverse</span></a> <a href="https://gotosocial.social/tags/federated" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>federated</span></a> <a href="https://gotosocial.social/tags/wiki" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>wiki</span></a> <a href="https://gotosocial.social/tags/encyclopedia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>encyclopedia</span></a></p>

Aurelie Herbelot (she/her)<p>I'm thinking of all this because our open source project <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@pears" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>pears</span></a></span> happens to be just that: a <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/decentralized" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>decentralized</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/search" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>search</span></a> engine made of a mix of new and old-fashioned algorithms. We are not currently using positional indexing in the <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/federated" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>federated</span></a> version of the code because it doesn't add much to our search precision. Krononaut Moon 🌕 2025 Mar 14<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;<br>Greetings Earthlings, Is Anybody There? 🛸 </p><p>For immediate release:<br>❛❛ An enterprising group of time travel enthusiasts, having only limited resources, claims they will be attempting to contact time travelers on Friday, March 14, 2025, 07:00 UTC — which is less than one month away. </p><p>On the date is a total lunar eclipse, when the Moon is darkened by the Earth's shadow for a brief period of time. Such an alignment typically lasts for around one hour. Members of The Krononaut Moon Project assert that using the total lunar eclipse as a signal to visitors from other dimensions or worlds is a perfect mechanism for synching up indie "landing receptions" around the planet. Community participants are invited to observe the celestial events however you like. You could fire up a candle or a bonfire, dance around a sacred drum circle, or connect with your past and future selves to become one with the cosmos — all under the Full "Worm Moon" of March. Observers are encouraged to take many photos of the Moon, noting any anomalous phenomena, and to share your digital documentation with the <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://universeodon.com/@KronoMoonPhotos" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>KronoMoonPhotos</span></a></span> page on the <a href="https://aus.social/tags/Mastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Mastodon</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/Federated" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Federated</span></a> social media network. Anytime Thursday &amp;/or Friday after dark local time is in keeping with the spirit and logic of the occasion. </p><p>According to the Krononauts group, a more commonly occurring partial or penumbral eclipse is not optimal for time travel encounters. Total lunar eclipses work best. They have a very eccentric periodicity, appearing on average once in 13 months. In this way they do not repeat on Gregorian or other terrestrial calendric systems. Still, they can be readily calculated centuries in advance. Over the next year there will be 3 total lunar eclipses, aka, 3 "Krononaut Moons". All are invited, wherever you are. </p><p>"On the Night of the Total Lunar Eclipse, <br>Time Travelers descend in their space-time ships." ❜❜</p><p>🔗 <a href="https://KronoMoon.org" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">KronoMoon.org</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> 🏳️‍🌈 ☮️ <br><a href="https://aus.social/tags/KrononautMoon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KrononautMoon</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/MoonOverMastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MoonOverMastodon</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/KronoWatch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>KronoWatch</span></a></p><p><a href="https://aus.social/tags/Community" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Community</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/TimeTravel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TimeTravel</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/Research" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Research</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/WelcomeTimeTravelers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WelcomeTimeTravelers</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/2025Mar14" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>2025Mar14</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/Kronodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Kronodon</span></a></p>

And with inevitable centralization comes frustration: neither admins nor people have choice.</p><p>APIs for "moderation as a service" that help submit all media to external actors, in the very same hash-and-match way that is one of the battlegrounds of the <a href="https://mastodon.de/tags/ChatControl" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ChatControl</span></a> assault on privacy (and has always been, for those who can remember the <a href="https://mastodon.de/tags/UploadFilters" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UploadFilters</span></a> debate).</p><p>And it's always "only an API". That you just misunderstood, or didn't look closely enough at.</p><p>And, that does not suggest or even mandate any kind of federation between its implementations.</p><p>Essentially, these APIs are an order, a call to surrender: Acknowledge the inferiority of federated systems – resistance is futile, you will be assimilated.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.de/tags/nonmention" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nonmention</span></a></p>
