#Cinemare - Das internationale Meeresfilmfestival in #Kiel findet gerade, vom 14.-18. Mai statt. Mein Highlight in jedem Jahr ist der Kurzfilmabend - schon wegen der genialen Moderation. In diesem Jahr gab es wieder eine bunte Mischung. Eine Studierendenarbeit, Stop Motion, 3D-Animation, Reportage - aus aller Welt und alle gut. Beindruckend war der Film, in dem das Leben von Wildlachsen mit animierten, menschlichen Figuren nacherzählt wurde. Mein Herz gewonnen hat aber die Reportage über die Gruppe älterer Frauen, die zusammen surfen gehen. Nächstes Jahr bin ich wieder dabei.

Along with devastating cuts to numerous govt agencies and relief programs, it should come as no surprise that #DJT admin's ugly cuts to #NEA grants were coming. The severance of support to #arts charities and non profit agencies were made official last week, ending previous grant$ from the #NationalEndowment for the Arts and longstanding annual committments are effectively canceled, almost immediately.

The grant cancellations are particularly dire for arts organizations for which NEA funding may constitute the bulk of a project's budget.

In #SFBayArea , the cut$ include support for the #LGBTQ centric #Frameline #FilmFestival, #SFJAZZ, #Berkeley Rep, Women’s Audio Mission, #American Conservatory #Theater, #TheLab, San Francisco International #Arts #Festival and many many more worthy recipients. Most of these iconic and dedicated organizations will of course be able to continue their track record of creativity and community service, but will be seeking more fiscal signs of support from local sources than ever before and encourage patrons to get personally connected.

Friday Harbor Film Festival celebrates Earth Day Month and our National Parks on Thursday, April 17 at 7pm at Orcas Center’s Center Stage Theater.  Out There: A National Parks Story is a stunning road trip through our National Parks, honoring the people working to maintain their beauty. The documentary will be followed by an exclusive prerecorded Q&A with the director, Brendan Hall. As part of the Earth Day Orcas, in conjunction with the SJI Makers Guild, there will be additional speakers, including a Ranger from the San Juan Islands National Monument. About the Film:

A young filmmaker sets out on a 10,000-mile exploration of the national parks with his childhood best friend during the centennial year of the formation of the National Park Service. Along the way, the two record stories of the people that work in the parks and those that come to enjoy them, as part of the rich tapestry of the history of the park system emerges. They hear profound stories of people from all ages, walks of life, and cultures that come to the parks seeking tranquility, healing, motivation, and connection to the natural world. Between the spectacular shots of the parks and compelling interviews are colorful bits of old maps, posters, and travelogues. This stunning road trip is a tribute to the national parks and their history and is also a recognition of the people that appreciate them and work to maintain their beauty.

Fan of Shared Truth & Empathy

Planning my journey for this week at The Athens International Film and Video Festival reviewing the program with an emphasis on catching as many feature narratives and documentaries as possible while also hitting up blocks of short competition films to round out my schedule attempting to fit in at least 3 screenings a day. Now I just need to find some way to score a pass as I have in the past or just pony up for the tickets.
