Monday
Why have one project on the go when you can have four (or more…. )
Working on the workshop
2 retro refurbs (inc this old Mercier frame)
2 new builds
A couple of tool ideas (that I’ll probably need help with)

It's a bit late for the holidays, but we're trying something new with the shop:
Would anyone (anywhere, no need to physically come into the shop unless you want to be fitted in person) like a custom bicycle frame design including 1 hour consultation, custom fitment, and the final schematics and mitering templates (everything you'd need to take it to a machine shop and have a bicycle built)?
We're trying to raise money for a copy of BikeCAD Pro, you can donate, or purchase a custom frame design on our Open Collective project! Custom designs will be fulfilled after the fundraiser is complete. If we can't raise the money and you want your donation back, it will be returned.
3/2 (oops):
Or, an idea someone else just gave me: are there other people who would like to do hobbyist frame design but can't afford BikeCAD? Maybe we could start a co-op that does an old-school computer time share or something and we buy a copy of BikeCAD that we can all take turns using? Although I wonder if this is legal or if the BikeCAD guy wouldn't like it? I have no idea if it's sold "per-seat" or if that means "per-person" or "per-computer".
I wonder if people would purchase bike designs that don't include the actual frame?
Ie. in exchange for a donation you get a design consultation, fitment, schematics, and mitering templates. Even a printed blueprint if you want. If you want an actual frame you'd have everything you need to take to a machine shop (or I could pre-sell a huge discount on the frame if I ever raise the money for the facilities I'd need later, though that seems less likely).

The idea of an Open Source bicycle design was mentioned and it occurred to me that I need to look at alternative ways to raise the money for a BikeCAD license, otherwise I will have forgotten all my frame building knowledge before I can afford it.
The author donated a $300 coupon leaving me with $450 to raise.

Look what I found!
Ever think of building your own bike frame. Paul Brodie looks to be a quite useful YouTube resource on frame building. This one on fillet brazing was a nice little primer.
And nows it's painted and is looking very bike-like

I haven't seen too much #framebuilding content here, so heres a few pics of a fork I built in my basement. The idea was to build a very compliant fork for unpaved riding but still with race-bike geometry because no one likes driving a bus(i.e. your modern #gravelbike ).
redesigned it to be cheaper. (small parts step) #FreeCAD #framebuilding
Yet another update to the bike hashtag list! Thanks to conversations here, and talking with framebuilding friend last night, 2 new categories, new tags, more to come if YOU tell me what's missing. So many corners in the bicycle world to explore! http://bikestylespokane.com/2023/04/09/hashtag-bikes/ #BicycleAdventures #NewBikeDay #Framebuilding #BikeTooter #CargoBikes #CargoBikeDogs #Recumbent #coffeeneuring #BikeShadows #YayBikes #FromWhereIRide #PartyBike #BikeParty
And here it is. The bicycle frame I designed and built from scratch back in 2019 as the completed gravel bike it became.
Sad to learn that The Bicycle Academy in Frome has had to close after 10 years in business.
I had such a great time there a couple of years ago not only learning how to, but actually building my own bespoke bicycle frame.
