d4doome<p>Borsalino (1970), a gorgeous-looking hugely entertaining French gangster film set in the 30s with Alain Delon and Jean-Paul Belmondo oozing charisma and sexiness and coolness. Don’t overthink this movie. d4doome<p>Henri-Georges Clouzot&#39;s Quai des Orfèvres (1947) is a police procedural, a murder mystery, a showbiz movie (with plenty of seediness and sleaze) and has a slight film noir vibe. A singer will do whatever it takes to reach the top. d4doome<p>Une Parisienne (1957), an early and incredibly charming Brigitte Bardot romantic comedy. She plays a girl who is really very sweet but a bit naughty in an innocent kind of way. d4doome<p>La Ronde (AKA Circle of Love, 1964), a series of sexual encounters. Each character figures in two consecutive encounters with different people. Structurally clever, light and amusing. d4doome<p>Jean-Luc Godard&#39;s Alphaville (1965), a weird disorienting dystopian sci-fi secret agent hardboiled pulp arthouse B-movie homage. d4doome<p>Roger Vadim&#39;s Love on a Pillow (1962) is a psycho-sexual melodrama starring Brigitte Bardot. It deals with freedom versus responsibility, free love versus marriage. </p><p>This is Bardot in a more serious complex role (moving away from her early romantic comedies) and she&#39;s superb. d4doome<p>Marcel Carné&#39;s Hôtel du Nord (1938), a perfect example of 1930s French film noir (or poetic realism).
