Lá gaofar i mBóthar na Trá inniu ach tá an grian ag taitneamh agus tá solas álainn ar an uisce!

Intense reading of Hardiman’s history of Galway and a deep dive into the bloodline of Elizabeth de Burgh (b. 1332) have drawn me to the unexpected conclusion that the Burkes of Castlebar are related to King Charles III.
Another unexpected conclusion is that the grandmother—18 times removed—of King Charles III was living in Galway (and secured the investments from the British monarch to complete the first Galway city wall)
Today, Máire Ní Fhátharta was found by volunteers on Silverstrand Beach, not far from where she went missing in the foggy morning of 12th November.
May she rest in peace.
Latest reports are that there's been fairly steady falls of #sneachta in Mayo (Westport) and Galway - AND IT'S STICKING!!
Hundreds of volunteers are walking the rocky tidal zone of Silverstrand in search of Máire Ní Fhátharta, who has been missing since Tuesday.
More help is needed to bring Máire home.
With the spring tides waning, Monday will be crucial for searching for her, as the low tide provides access to most of the ocean floor. Please come and take part in the scheduled searches if you’re near #Galway and can help in any way.

Got a lift for the night search down at Silverstrand. Hundreds of people volunteered for the search, and more are needed.
If you are in Galway and can help, please look for updates at https://m.facebook.com/clganspideal/.
I will be looking for a lift from Galway to the evening/night search tomorrow. DM me if you are going and have a spare seat in your car.
Looking for someone in #Galway who is driving to the Silverstrand search tonight. I need a lift from Galway to the Spiddal pitch for the evening search (starts 15:30)
Please reply/dm if you have a place in your car.
The #Macnas parade this year in Galway was a bit disappointing. There were only 5 minutes of action, few acts, and no brass.
It was a good idea to have 2 days of performances, but both were only half the size and glory of the traditional parade. I hope it will return to its original full-size celebration of the macabre and otherworldly themes, as it always has been.
Lovely Saturday evening, listening to some jazz, drinking barrel-aged stout by the fireplace, and watching live our local seal catch fish at Galway Bay.
If you feel your evening would be better with a seal, here is a livestream link:

Now, that is impressive even for me (and I’ve been to Arctic many times)

On the east side of Hare Island (in Galway), there are remnants of an old sunken boat that can only be seen during spring tides. I wonder what the route of this boat was and how she ended up on this side of the island, as there is literally nothing on the eastern part of the bay.
