My understanding is that if you boost a post from a new, unknown-to-your-instance, then that post now is visible to everyone on your instance. If that post as a hashtag that others on your instance follow, they will now see it. But they won't now see every post with a particular <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/hashtag" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>hashtag</span></a> from that previously unknown instance. Or at least, I think that's how it works. Frickin' confusing I know.</p>
