Schalk Cronjé<p>Hydration packs are great:<br>- Water is hidden away from the sun.<br>- Drinking pipe is always available for a quick sip.<br>- Easy to carry 3lt if a backpack has a hydration sleeve feature.</p><p>Hydration packs are a pain when:<br>- It comes to refilling them with a full pack.<br>- Having to filter water first to fill them.<br>- Cooking time, and it is your only water container.</p><p>So I have been experimenting with bottles and I bought a wide-mouth Nalgene bottle as part of the testing.</p><p>Well, it's a pain if you do not want to take your pack off for a quick sip. You always have reach back to wiggle it out of the side pocket.</p><p>So I decided to mod the system to take a drinking pipe. Although the US has some nice mods in the cottage industry, they are not readily available in Europe.
