Stewart X Addison<p>Initial thoughts on <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/immich" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>immich</span></a> (previously I'd used to briefly at <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/FOSDEM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FOSDEM</span></a>:</p><p>It's slick even on this SBC and so far it's running just off the mucroSD card. So far hasn't gone above 80% of the 4GiB RAM use. (Mostly under 50% except when importing).</p><p>Negatives: It doesn't seem to be able to show panorama JPEGs imported from my phone for some reason and if you have high frame rate videos they play by default at 'normal' speed but the menu to slow it down only lets you go to 0.5x (I have many at 240fps)</p>
Stewart X Addison<p>Reinstalled the N2 with as new (headless to save RAM) Ubuntu image, installed the latest Docker + docker-compose from outside the Ubuntu repos since the version there was too old, then the <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Immich" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Immich</span></a> install went smoothly!</p><p>Will try actually using it and making it accessible to the internet in them next few days to see how it performs!</p>
Majd al-Shihabi 🏴 مجد الشهابي<p>Thinking of slowly transitioning my online existence to a server that I own and keep plugged in at home, or rent in a location that is as far from US jurisdiction as possible. The problem with the later is that that it's going to be expensive. With the former is that it's less failure-tolerant and requires more maintenance on my side. </p><p>I'd want to run <a href="https://social.coop/tags/NextCloud" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NextCloud</span></a> for my family, and perhaps <a href="https://social.coop/tags/immich" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>immich</span></a> (once it's stable), so the price will add up quickly because of the tech requirements.</p>
sudonem<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://infosec.exchange/@Xavier" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>Xavier</span></a></span> Strongly recommend having a look at <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/SyncThing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SyncThing</span></a>, and also <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Immich" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Immich</span></a> </p><p>NextCloud can be a good option, and it is a close analog to Dropbox - but I personally found setup &amp; admin can be a headache for a small amount of users - whereas self-hosting <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Immich" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Immich</span></a> was a snap.</p><p><a href="https://immich.app" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">immich.app</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> has been rocksolid for me for photo/video backups, and I use <a href="https://syncthing.net/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">syncthing.net/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> for basically everything else.</p>
Lukas Müller<p>I tried to use <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/crowdsec" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>crowdsec</span></a> for the first time today to lock down the proxy that I use to proxy <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Immich" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Immich</span></a> and <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Nextcloud" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Nextcloud</span></a>, but noticed that it does not like the Nextcloud office nor some Immich features. For now I will stick to modsecurity, as I am more familiar with it and when I have more time I will find out which crowdsec rules break Immich and Nextcloud.<br>I used the "Crowdsec Bouncer Traefik Plugin" with appsec enabled.</p>
oliver<p>So, aktuell habe ich 2 <a href="https://anonsys.net/search?tag=pihole" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pihole</span></a>. B. <a href="https://anonsys.net/search?tag=Vaultwarden" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Vaultwarden</span></a> und mal schauen, was noch so geht bzw Sinn macht. Aber die Möglichkeiten wären da schon andere und theoretisch würde es sich lohnen.</p><p><a href="https://anonsys.net/search?tag=raspberry-pi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>raspberry-pi</span></a> <a href="https://anonsys.net/search?tag=degoogle" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>degoogle</span></a> <a href="https://anonsys.net/search?tag=unplugTrump" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>unplugTrump</span></a></p>
Lukas Müller<p>Trying to switch away from big tech is continuing:<br>I set up a <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Immich" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Immich</span></a> instance to ditch <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Google" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Google</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Photos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Photos</span></a> and take back my <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/privacy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>privacy</span></a>. I run the server on my <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/homelab" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homelab</span></a> and proxy it over a tunnel to be accessible everywhere.<br>Immich takes more resources than expected, but is running smooth with 6GB RAM.</p>
mirrorless gamera<p>Now with <a href="https://friendship.quest/tags/immich" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>immich</span></a> going, I have most of my data self-hosted.</p><p>In the case of photos I haven't set up a 3rd backup location so they'll remain in apple photos until I have some redundancy, but now I've managed to remove most of my apple-reliance.</p><p>This also means that my <a href="https://friendship.quest/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> machines aren't just code / utility boxes, but can actually participate in my life.</p>
Nico :pensive_party_blob:<p>God I’m getting old. A stupid question: I’m currently getting rid of Google Photos by downloading my archive. I want try to Immich but I’ve noticed it’s says self hosting and I’m to old and dumb to get in all that.</p><p>What’s the difference between self hosting a server and keeping your data on an external SSD for example? Access and use of use I presume? </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/googlephotos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>googlephotos</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/google" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>google</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/immich" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>immich</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/selfhosting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>selfhosting</span></a></p>
Patrick Leavy<p>A question for you <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/selfhosting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>selfhosting</span></a> and <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/homelab" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homelab</span></a> peeps:<br>Do you know why Docker Desktop might keep stopping, when running the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Immich" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Immich</span></a> container?</p><p>The log shows this:</p><p>Error: Input file has corrupt header</p><p>for a particular photo. </p><p>And another error was:</p><p>Error: Input file contains unsupported image format</p><p>But wouldn't this just skip the file, not crash out the container?</p>
Linuxiac<p>Immich 1.129 fixes memory issues, adds video playback in memories and introduces shortcuts and QR codes for easier sharing.<br><a href="https://linuxiac.com/immich-1-129-photo-and-video-backup-solution-released/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">linuxiac.com/immich-1-129-phot</span><span class="invisible">o-and-video-backup-solution-released/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/immich" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>immich</span></a></p>
Brad Romance<p>Well, the Memories UI is nice but yeeeah my poor server is not doing well with the processing load. 😅 I uploaded 600 pics and it maxed out the container’s memory allocation and it stopped responding. Twice. CPU was fine though.</p><p>The web UI is nice enough, it has a timeline view, the map view works well and uses Open Streetmap, it seems to have all the album and tagging features I use. I don’t really use the face and landmark scanning features in iOS Photos but it’s nice on occasion. The web app on iOS is ok (although can’t say how well it would run with my entire library uploaded!).</p><p>I think I’ll disable it for now (since my server can’t cope) and try <a href="https://toot.chez.gay/tags/Immich" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Immich</span></a>, see how I like that. If that works better on the hardware I have, I’ll stick with that. If it’s no better I guess I need to get different hardware to run my photo library… or stick with an online solution.</p><p><a href="https://toot.chez.gay/tags/Nextcloud" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Nextcloud</span></a> <a href="https://toot.chez.gay/tags/NextcloudMemories" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NextcloudMemories</span></a> <a href="https://toot.chez.gay/tags/Disapplepointed" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Disapplepointed</span></a> <a href="https://toot.chez.gay/tags/Apple" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Apple</span></a></p>

Brad Romance<p>Now my contacts, calendars and notes are in there, I’m tempted to try <a href="https://toot.chez.gay/tags/Nextcloud" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Nextcloud</span></a> photos instead of <a href="https://toot.chez.gay/tags/Immich" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Immich</span></a>, people seem to like it and it would save me spinning up another container.</p><p>There’s no official Nextcloud photos app, the Nextcloud files app is what handles the background uploads from your camera roll, but for browsing you either get the files interface in that app (yuk) or you use the web UI.</p><p>I might stick a bunch of photos in there (not my whole library) and see how I get on with it. </p><p><a href="https://toot.chez.gay/tags/Disapplepointed" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Disapplepointed</span></a> <a href="https://toot.chez.gay/tags/Apple" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Apple</span></a></p>

Search for "Cars on the road" or "Drag queens".<br>Indexes content by people's faces.</p><p>Best thing is, I am running it on a shitty Intel NUC that the ops people hated because windows on it was so slow. With <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a>, it's just fast enough, although it took about 6 days to index all 33,000 <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/video" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>video</span></a> files on our core <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/NAS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NAS</span></a>.</p><p>Next deploy is my partners 15 years of phone media dumps on the home NAS.<br>Would also be perfect to organise ones <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/porn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>porn</span></a> collection, though strangely enough, I am no longer interested in that. Old age does funny things.</p><p>Highly recommended.</p>

Die Sicherung der Fotos vom Handy läuft grad.</p><p>Die nächste Zeit mal schauen, wie es sich im Alltag bewährt und was es alles für Features gibt. Vielleicht kann das hier dann die Google Fotos App ersetzen.</p>
