@vwestlife #Funfact: In #Europe, #Cband dishes weren't common so #SatelliteInternet used simiar #Tuner cards with #VSAT terminals, usually accepting downlinks from regular commercial #TV #satellites that were just data channels on #ASTRA and/or #Eutelsat #HotBird in the #KuBand...

  • Later they got some fancy "SAT-Routers" that combines a #DVB-S downlink and an #analog #56k / #ISDN modem for uplink if not offered to use #2G #mobile networks as well...

I've got one of those:

Basically a #Router with some #Linux on Ethernet, Power & F-Screw-Connector on the rear, #56k& #ISDN #Modem|s and USB up-front.

  • And yes, I used that to share a #dialup connection with multiple devices, because they can do that!

Die Macher von #ISDN würden sich schämen, hätten sie #MicrosoftTeams erfunden.

Ja, mal ehrlich. Die Sprachqualität von ISDN, die wäre heute natürlich auch in einer #Videokonferenz möglich. Sie wäre auch im #Mobilfunk möglich, gäbe es eine ausreichende Netzabdeckung. Aber bei #Microsoft #Teams stößt es mir besonders auf, dort könnte es anders sein.

Nach 45 Minuten Teilnahme an einer Teams-Sitzung: Wie oft hab ich mich gefragt, ob mich das Gegenübern noch hört? Wie oft war das Bild zu pixelig, als dass ich hätte was erkennen können (es ging um die Erklärung, ein bestimmtes Gerät zu bedienen, dessen Bildschirm und anderes abgefilmt wurden). Wie oft hat das aggressive Noise Gate das leise Gegenüber eliminiert?

Wie viel Stress erzeugen technisch unterirdische Videocalls jeden Tag?

(Ist das ein Problem von eher hochsensiblen Personen? Diese ständige zerfetzte Kommunikation als super anstrengend zu empfinden?)

Das Kernproblem ist aber: Den meisten Usern ist es scheißegal. Alternativen existieren.
