The "Dawg at 80!" concert looked phenomenal. What an all-star lineup. It's really too bad Tony Rice isn't still with us as he would have been a great addition. Regardless it looked like a special evening.
It was filmed for a livestream special premiering on nugs.net this Sunday, 3/30 at 8pm eastern.

"You're Still the One" is a song recorded by Canadian singer #ShaniaTwain for her third studio album #ComeOnOver (1997). The song was inspired by criticism of Twain's relationship with her then-husband and #producer #RobertJohnMuttLange and depicts her celebrating their marriage despite the difficulties and differences between the two. Written by Twain and Lange, it is a #piano-driven #countryPop ballad incorporating #guitar, #organ, and #mandolin.

Okay, in 1851 the opera Rigoletto was first performed in Venice. BUT 155 years later, a Canadian film adaptation, ''Rigoletto ...in bluegrass" won Best Originality at the Bluegrass Independent Film Festival in Kentucky.
While most of the music is deliberately corny bluegrass, the Prelude and the Introduction from the original opera are performed by the Mandolin Society of Peterborough.
Here's a little mazurka composed and played by me, accompanied by my friend Ron Fisher. We were actually sitting on top of a drumlin (a hill formed of glacial till) when we recorded it.
Back in for my second round of chemo. Doc said I was so far ahead of the norm in my response to the first round that he's confident two to three more rounds that I'll "never be bothered by this again."
Huge shoutout to the medical, nursing, and support staff here at Duke. Incredibly competent, professional, and supportive. I should add that they're a magnificent example of diversity.
Expecting a snow storm today. Here's an appropriate tune from Canada, played by a group from Colombia:

Track 9: "The Winter Song"
A tune about Rick's time in North Dakota (not a great time, tbh, but kind of a great song; dude has something here). Mike busts out the mandolin and does some solos.

I'm tired out from so much snow shovelling over the past few days, so I'm reposting a video of something I'd rather be doing.

"The Entertainer" is a 1902 #classicPianoRag written by #ScottJoplin. It was sold first as sheet music by #JohnStarkAndSon of #StLouis, Missouri, and in the 1910s as piano rolls that would play on #playerPianos. The first recording was by blues and #ragtime musicians the #BlueBoys in 1928, played on #mandolin and guitar. As one of the classics of ragtime, it returned to international prominence as part of the ragtime revival in the 1970s.

One thing I have never understood about fretted string instruments: the act of pressing the string onto the fret adds tension, shifting the pitch slightly up. The amount of tension (and shift) depends on how much force the player applies, and is therefore an element of playing technique. But an open string can't be adjusted in this way. So a chord made of some fretted and some open strings will be slightly out of tune. How do you address this? #guitar #ukelele #mandolin
Seeing Sierra Hull everywhere these days. Album collabs, guest spots, supergroups, festival sit-ins, TV appearances, etc. makes me realize she’s the new Sam Bush. That incredibly talented #mandolin player who you can invite to anything and will show up bringing the HEAT! She’s amazing.
