Did you know that #methamphetamine was used by #German #WW2 #soldiers... but was also marketed to housewives?

Pervitin was the brand name. It was identical to modern meth & colloquially named "Weckamin", "wake me".

It explained the speed of the German WW2 #army through #France. Even #Hitler thought the #progress #reports faulty.

Everyone could buy it, too. E.g "Hildebrand" pralines were specifically marketed to housewives.

To be more awake & to concentrate & to forget.

and this gets me because. it's like there's a contingent of adhders who heard that we're predisposed to substance abuse issues and, rather than connecting the dots of "substance abuse is often a coping mechanism resorted to in the wake of insufficient care for a psychological disorder, stigma against addicts is one more link in the chain of systemic societal ableism," instead thought "drug users are dangerous and selfish people who are out to do harm to uniquely vulnerable people like me." for a while I put this mindset down to the lack of experience and time to process ideas that comes with youth; it still sucks, but the people I knew in middle school who had bad takes about drugs and alcohol no longer think that way now we're in college, and mostly they changed their minds on their own instead of needing me or someone else to call them out directly. but there are subsets of adhd communities who used these talking points when their average age was 15 in 2016 and are still using them now when their average age is 22. so maybe the hot new trend for 2023 should be interrogating the propaganda you've been fed about drug users for your whole life and considering whether these ideas hold up to compassionate scrutiny and who benefits if you believe them."

If you can drink #alcohol and own a #gun, why not #marijuana ? You read of alcohol involved shootings a few times a week but after a quick Google search, cannot find anything about Marijuana involved shootings.

I am sure one happened. Somewhere. At some time. The Cartels did at one time. No money in it now. It is #fentanyl and #methamphetamine making them the big bucks.

ChemRxivPillar[6]MaxQ: A Potent Supramolecular Host for In Vivo Sequestration of Methamphetamine and FentanylPillar[6]MaxQ (P6AS) functions as an in vivo sequestration agent for methamphetamine and fentanyl. We use 1H NMR and isothermal titration calorimetry to glean information on the geometry and strength of the P6AS•drug complexes. P6AS forms tight complexes with fentanyl (Kd = 9.8 nM), PCP (17.1 nM), MDMA (25.5 nM), mephedrone (52.4 nM), and methamphetamine (101 nM). P6AS has good in vitro biocompatibility according to MTS metabolic, Adenylate Kinase cell death, and hERG ion channel inhibition assays, and the Ames fluctuation test. The no observed adverse effect level derived from a maximum tolerated dose study for P6AS was 45 mg kg-1. The hyperlocomotion of mice treated with methamphetamine (0.5 mg kg-1) can be ameliorated by subsequent treatment with P6AS (35.7 mg kg-1) 5-minutes later, whereas the hyperlocomotion of mice treated with fentanyl (0.1 mg kg-1) can be controlled by treatment with P6AS (5 mg kg-1) up to 15-minutes later. P6AS has significant potential for development as a broad spectrum in vivo sequestration agent.
