I’ve just seen an error in the alt text title and author list here 🙄 sorry. Only on Sundays is by Katharine Whitehorn not Katherine Mansfield! This book is from 1966, when I was minus ten years old. I bought it in a second hand bookshop as a teen. Key to my formative notions of what a “woman journalist” might be.

The text of the dedication is either an interesting historical nod to male newspaper boss ego or a genuine statement of gratitude and friendship. I’m here for either.

Acknowledgment Text inside book which reads Acknowledgments Only on Sundays is only partly true. It has to be admitted that two of these pieces (Just You Wait, 'Enery 'Iggins and In Defence of Excess) came out on a Wednesday- in Punch. I need a whole room, my own , a place to escape to and maybe free up the other spaces all over the house where I have books "resting". To be fair I have some of my current favourite where I'm sat at the moment and on the floor beside the bed for nighttime. I used to pick one book and read it through before reaching for another, now I just read any given book depending on my mood so I have quite a few on the go at the moment. This is the tidy spot

This photo is of my top book shelves containing just some of my many books, the very top contains books on Irish history and local history (Donegal), with a few fictional but of local interest. The second shelf has, to the right, wellness books, yoga, pilates and Buddhism and to the left and centre everything from American history to books about Halifax in England in relation to Anne Lister aka Gentleman Jack and also Mackintosh's (sweet manufacturer). Nestled in between Is the book Sapiens, the book Citizen by Claudia Rankine, George Orwell's 1984 and Our Story Reg and Ron Kray, An Essay on the Principle of Population by T.R.Malthus. Oh and my Kindle sat on top of them just off centre left.
