I’ve been putting off pruning this little tree, now in its 3rd year post grafting (by someone else). At first there were 4 little trunks, and I was afraid some might be scions and some rootstock. It was also labeled ananas reinette but I think it’s pink pearl after sampling fruit. I’m inclined to just cut one of the leaners this year and cut the other next year, trying to lessen stress, but the central trunk doesn’t look as strong as I would like. #permaculture #orchard #gardening

#pruning advice please! I thought this little #CherryTree was dead; is it too late to do a winter pruning? Our cold weather was about two week of frosty nights, last month. The buds are showing green, just.

Also, all the buds are at the very ends of the branches - *can* i prune them without starving it? Prune a fraction, maybe?

I’m trying to follow _Grow A Little Fruit Tree_, am at the 3rd year.

The Kaipaitangata stream which is usually a placid stream that passes Beau Vista cider orchard under a culvert on the road, and has flooded over the road and the orchard is now dry after this prolonged dry spell and will only flow again after the winter rains. The water table is only 1.8 metres underground in the alluvial silt of the Taratahi plains. #orchard #river #flooding #dryriver

Olive Orchard

This image was captured in the springtime at the historic Filoli House and Garden in Woodside California. The 54,000 square foot mansion is rich in history, but one of the big attractions on the property is the gardens.
The 265 acre property is split into 3 basic parcels, woodlands, orchards, and garden. The image here is in an area of the property where there is an old olive grove.

Grafting is a great skill to have. You have many more options for varieties, and it saves a lot of money versus nursery-grown trees. I graft 20-30 fruit trees every spring to distribute in my community.
