Yesterday, I heard one of my eldest #cousins had a #heartattack.
Today, I heard he is now OK, thanks to his #pacemaker.
Apparently he had ANOTHER heart attack around six years ago, and I never heard about it, or about him getting a pacemaker, until today.

This is a good news story. Waikato Hospital is testing a new pacemaker which speeds up and slows down in sync with a person's breathing. It's been successfully tested on "sheep with heart failure" which increased the animals' cardiac output by an impressive 23%.
I wonder how patients trialling the device feel when their doctor says, "Trust us, this thing has been tested on sheep."

In the 1950s, electrical engineer Wilson Greatbatch was working on a device to record heartbeats. While assembling the circuit, he accidentally inserted the wrong type of resistor. Instead of recording heartbeats, the circuit emitted rhythmic electrical pulses. This mistake sparked the idea for the implantable pacemaker.
