Keagan<p>I need a suggestion (or possibly confirmation) on what password manager to setup for my grandparents.</p><p>They’ve been using the same variant of one password for very long and are constantly forgetting it and resetting it to forget it again in a few months. I’ve offered to manage that for them but I’d like to use a separate password manager to the one I’m using (just so I don’t have all my eggs in one basket).</p><p>I’ve been using <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/protonpass" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>protonpass</span></a> since it was launched in beta and have been very happy. I was thinking of setting up <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/vaultwarden" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vaultwarden</span></a> on my <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/synology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>synology</span></a> NAS and maybe self hosting. The only requirement is that I need to be able to share passwords with them or other family members without them needing an account.</p><p><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/password" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>password</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/passwordmanager" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>passwordmanager</span></a></p>

Thor A. Hopland<p>Like why does every <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/PasswordManager" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PasswordManager</span></a> also provide you an <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/authenticator" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>authenticator</span></a>? Call me paranoid, but those two shouldn't mix.</p><p>It might be easier to let <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/Bitwarden" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Bitwarden</span></a> handle both your <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/password" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>password</span></a>, <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/passkey" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>passkey</span></a> AND <a href="https://snabelen.no/tags/otp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>otp</span></a> code, but it feels like playing with fire - even though the apps might not share any code.</p><p>So I use an authenticator from a different vendor - just in case.</p><p>Am I just being paranoid?</p>
Matthias Klein 🇪🇺|🇩🇪<p>Schade! I just discovered something that most of you may already know. I was using my phone, and I went to log into the website for a grocery store I use fairly frequently. I noticed a little check beside that password in the password manager, Bitwarden, that I started using on my phone a couple of years ago. (I use a different one on my laptop.) </p><p>I had never noticed this check mark before, and I clicked it. Up pops a message saying "this password has appeared in one data breach" -- or something to that effect.</p><p>I was surprised and immediately changed that password. Now I'm thinking I should check all my passwords. I didn't know to do that before, or even that I had that capability.</p><p><a href="https://c.im/tags/OnlineSecurity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OnlineSecurity</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/DataBreach" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DataBreach</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/Passwords" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Passwords</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/PasswordManager" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PasswordManager</span></a></p>
