Well that's two #matter lightbulbs connected via #homeassistant without having to mess around with other apps or cloud accounts. The only wrinkle is that for some reason (#playservices?) I need the #playstore version of the companion app. Otherwise I'm sold on it for future home automation devices.

#NetworkLocation is so crucial. In #Germany I was in regional trains in #Niedersachsen and #Bayern, both times there is 0% #GPS inside the train. If you dont physically hold your phone outside a window, you have no idea where you are.
Networklocation solves this easily. I had cell internet all the time. You may even pass by houses and get #geolocation through their #Wifi APs.
Use #NeoStumbler in trains and subways, especially if you have #PlayServices installed!
This is the example of the kind of feature that the #DigitalMarketsAct is driving #Google to implement. It could have been implemented long ago, but there was no pressure for Google to do so. Notice how they implemented it in #PlayServices, not Android. Apps that implement this are then tied to Google's proprietary stuff. #Google says #PlayServices is not part of the OS but then do not allow users to actually uninstall it. At the same time, they say that they won't let people download it and install it on other AOSP-based systems like Amazon Fire. We know this kind of thing works since people are downloading Play Services from places like APKMirror.

Should you want to #register at #telegram or want to change your phone number (basically everything that requires a #sms or #call sent to you):
It only works on a device with an official #telegram #build and with #google #playservices installed.
All other settings, e.g. vanilla #lineageos , #telegramfoss and other things fail silently or with misleading errors.
Did cost me 3 days to find out.

@Stark9837 Thank you for that! I thought that the #AOSP was also responsible for the #PlayServices, but that was just because they include Play System updates in their security bulletins and I think bundle it with their GSI. The integration made me think it was part of the Open Source components making me wonder why they couldn't be better integrated. Thanks for clearing that up!

Gibt es eigentlich irgendeinen eScooter Anbieter (LIME, TIER und Co), der in seiner App NICHT auf Google Play Services setzt? Eine Drittanbieter-App wird´s wohl eher nicht geben, oder?
Ich bin ein paar Tage in einer Stadt und würde gern dort die Wege so überbrücken.
Wie es aussieht, werd ich eher/ lieber laufen.

Ich weiß schon, warum ich auf meinem #Android-Gerät auf #GApps und #PlayServices verzichte, aber hier ist nochmal ein guter Grund: "[...] Google greift alle 20 Minuten IP-Adressen, Telefonnummern und Geräte-IMEI, Mail-Adressen und Nutzungsdaten des Smartphones auch von den Anwendern der Tracing Apps ab." Wenn schon eine #CoronaApp, dann bitte eine Lösung, die auch gänzlich frei und unabhängig funktioniert.
