In fact, all of my existing Instagram posts now live on this site at <a href="https://mark.biek.org/photos/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://mark.biek.org/photos/</a>!To accomplish this, I wrote a very rough <a href="https://github.com/markbiek/alf-ig-import" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">WordPress plugin</a>. The plugin takes a <code>.zip</code> of an Instagram export file and processes all of the media items and inserts them as WordPress posts. Each image is added to the Media Library and set as the featured image of the post.Have you noticed the problem yet?I didn’t notice until I got a message from one of my subscribers who’s set to get email notifications when I post (and also happens to be my mom 😜)I didn’t consider the fact that, by default, WordPress doesn’t differentiate between posts created programmatically and those created by a person. It just sees “Hey, a new post” and sends out the appropriate notifications.As far as I know, my parents are the only ones who got inundated with emails. Other people probably got some notifications on WordPress.com but those would’ve been easy to clear. I haven’t had any complaints (yet).Also, luckily, my RSS feed (and cross-posting to Bluesky) are tied to very specific blog categories so I didn’t pollute those. If you follow this blog on Mastodon (which I don’t think anyone does), that would’ve had a flood of weird looking posts.
