bounding_star<p>I'm pondering design for a super minimal <a href="https://adlsolarpunk.net/tags/pocketComputer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pocketComputer</span></a>, not a phone replacement but rather a device tailored to do only what's useful to me not distracting, basically what do i need on an average day out when i don't want to be stuck in my phone?</p><p>Ideally i could make this modifiable in a way that anyone could tailor it to their own needs and make one, so: </p><p>If you had to choose 4 essential features to leave your phone at home, what would they be? </p><p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://computerfairi.es/@mavica_again" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>mavica_again</span></a></span> <br><a href="https://adlsolarpunk.net/tags/openHardware" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>openHardware</span></a> <a href="https://adlsolarpunk.net/tags/permacomputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>permacomputing</span></a></p>
Willard Goosey<p>There's an ebay guy that sells scans of technical manuals. He had the PC4 Sevice Manual. So I got a copy.</p><p>Not a lot to the manual, these things weren't really going to be repairable with 198X equipment.</p><p>This manual also covers the matching cassette interface, though, and I was interested in that. </p><p>Hoped the interface was just some caps and resistors, but nope there's a whole IO chip in there. Outputs Kansas City format tape!</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/retrocomputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retrocomputing</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/PocketComputer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>PocketComputer</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/TRS80" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TRS80</span></a></p>

Ingo Paschke<p>Psion introduced the Series 3a organizer in 1993 as a much-improved followup to the Series 3. With its 8MHz V30, a 480x160 screen, 1 MB of RAM, EPOC-16 multitasking GUI-based OS and its 30h battery runtime on 2 AA batteries it was a truly revolutionary device at the time. Not much larger than a glasses case when closed, it opened to a QWERTY keyboard that was quite comfortable to type on. <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/psion" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>psion</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/3a" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>3a</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/retrocomputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retrocomputing</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/pocketcomputer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pocketcomputer</span></a> 1/x</p>
Ingo Paschke<p>The FX-730p is an evolution of the pocket-computer line that began with the PB 100. It has much more RAM (8KB), a larger display, a simple function evaluator and a "memo" function, that can be used to store simple keyword to multiple values tables. This is not only useful for telephone directories, but also for storing function libraries to be used with the evaluator. The memo-data could also be used in BASIC programs. <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/retrocomputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retrocomputing</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/pocketcomputer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pocketcomputer</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/casio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>casio</span></a></p>
