"Let's Get Together", also known as "#GetTogether" and "Everybody Get Together", is a song written in the mid-1960s by the American singer-songwriter #ChetPowers (stage name Dino Valenti), from the #psychedelicRock band #QuicksilverMessengerService. A hit version by #theYoungbloods, included on their 1967 debut album The Youngbloods, peaked at No. 5 on the #Billboard #Hot100 in 1969.

Quicksilver Messenger Service was the epitome of the #SanFrancisco #60s #psychedelic band. Describing San Francisco/ #JamBands as having folk, jazz, and classical influences has become a cliche, and as much as it applies here, it falls short in describing their sound. There’s a sweetness (it's not a bad thing) and lightness to their sound, maybe imparted by the way they used keyboards and by their use of flute that to me set this particular band of hippies apart.
There’s apparently controversy about whether future lead singer #DinoValenti was involved when they first formed, and disagreement about when he (re?)joined in 1969, whether that was the downfall of the group or its elevation to a new creative peak, but it’s the latter form of the band that had more commercial success, and what I think of as #QuicksilverMessengerService.
Daily #SteveKimock. A very special #Saturday treat! Video of an early #Zero show with #JohnCipollina that I don't believe has ever seen the light of day. I've been on a big digitizing campaign this week, going through piles of DVDs that I had stored. Ran across this one last night!
Daily #SteveKimock. A nice early #Zero show with #JohnCipollina.

Daily #SteveKimock. The early lineup of #Zero included wildman #JohnCipollina of #QuickSilverMessengerService.
Here’s a complete set from 1987. John was already quite ill by then but managed to carry on rocking for two more years before passing.
