so far, the ONLY operating system aside from #Linux derivatives and #GhostBSD that have worked on my desktop PC is #HaikuOS, which only works in framebuffer mode at limited resolution on the gigantic monitor.

All of these other options have failed:

#Redox, the Rust OS: fails during boot
#ReactOS, the Windows clone: blue screens during boot
#OpenIndiana, some SunOS thingummy: boots if a sufficiently old ISO is used but the mouse doesn't work (an ordinary USB mouse)
#Aros varieties ArosOne and Icaros Desktop: both fail upon booting

Lilbits: Tariffs on Chinese shipments take effect, Apple opens up the App Store (a bit), and first look at Google’s Pixel Desktop mode

Now that a US District Court judge has ordered Apple to loosen its restrictions on apps that direct users to pay for goods and subscriptions using non App Store billing, a growing number of developers are starting to update their apps to let users find other ways to pay. Patreon, and Proton are among those who are already planning to do so, and Spotify’s updated app is already available.

@WeirdWriter Hi Robert, good question & one I don't know offhand (if anyone does, please share!) Looking on reactos.org/faq/#can-i-install I found "Can I install ReactOS and run any software compatible with Windows on it?
Probably yes. However we highly recommend to check first if your favourite app runs in ReactOS. ReactOS is still an on-going project and not all the apps and drivers runs perfect on it."

Are any of our #FOSS / #Linux friends involved in #ReactOS able to share experiences please?

ReactOS 0.4.15 brings audio, memory, security, and plug and play improvements (Open source Windows-compatible OS)

ReactOS is a free and open source operating system designed to be compatible with Windows software and drivers. While it’s been under active development since 1999, the operating system is still missing a lot of basic features (like automatic updates, printing, a task scheduler, hibernation support, and multi user support). But the ReactOS team has released the first major update in more than […]
