We’re looking forward to joining #CoRDI2025 at @rwth Aachen University later this month – and it’s great news that the registration deadline has been extended until 15 August for those who haven’t secured their ticket yet.
We'll be there with a wide range of contributions from our HMC Hubs – sharing insights, exchanging ideas, and engaging with the vibrant research data community.
See you in Aachen!
Good news for anyone who doesn't have a ticket for the #CoRDI2025 yet and would like to come. The registration deadline has been extended to 15 August.
Book your ticket via Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.de/e/cordi-2025-2nd-conference-on-research-data-infrastructure-tickets-1368214990869

We hope to see you from 26 to 28 August at @rwth!
This paper investigates researcher's data description practices:
https://doi.org/10.1002/asi.70003
The authors focus on paradata - information researchers generate during data creation, processing, and use. It has a different purpose and often does not fit the structure of standardized metadata.
Based on interviews with 33 researchers from archaeology, the authors identified five data description practices, their purpose, relation to executing research methods, temporal orientation and scope.
If you are interested in the concept of paradata, the authors recently published the book "Paradata - Documenting Data Creation, Curation and Use":
This paper presents results of a systematic review of studies on research data management services at academic libraries:
https://doi.org/10.1002/asi.70008
89 studies were included in the analysis.
Overall, the studies mention advisory services more frequently than technical services. Many studies mention changes in the library's role, policies and researchers' needs as motivation for implementing RDM services. Effectiveness is most frequently conceptualized as increased awareness and use of services.

#digitalhumanities #consulting #Forschungsdaten #academia #researchdata #FAIR
Excellent interview by Katrin Schmermund with Anna Abalkina, published in Forschung&Lehre (Open Access, unfortunately only in German language) on Abalkina's research on paper mills. You can follow Abalkina on Bluesky, https://bsky.app/profile/abalkina.bsky.social.
The scale of academic misconduct is amazing, and to a certain degree it is now powered by AI. One almost unchallenged aspect of the problem is fake research data.

I was awarded a grant by @BerlinUAlliance - this grant will allow me to visit Stefanie Haustein, associate professor at the School of Information Studies at the University of Ottawa and co-director of the ScholCommLab.
During my stay, I will investigate metadata flows in the context of research data. In particular, I will examine the transfer of metadata from local to global contexts.

If you are a researcher* in the Netherlands and want to send large files, you can use SURFfilesender instead of #wetransfer.
Up to 2GB file size (and up to 1TB with HTML5 browsers) - for free!
Don't let your #researchdata end up as unauthorized AI training data, use #OpenSource based solutions instead.
