This is an expecially good time to be around #XMPP
#profanity and #poezio were recently updated, while #gajim (and soon #converse.js) got a new major release. These are all #XMPP clients, if you're not familiar with those names: first 2 are console-based, while gajim is a desktop client and converse.js is a web client.
Even #Movim (web client) will have another big release soon, supporting #audio #video #calls and #screensharing.. Want to give it a go? 😊

Can anyone pls offer useful hints on how to get my old [~2011] Dell XPS15 lappy [dual-boot Fedora KDE Wayland & MXLinux Cinnamon X11] to share its screen with an external monitor?

With either boot, plugging & unplugging the HDMI cable does not prompt anything automagically happening on screen. Going onto each OS's respective Display Settings section, doesn't help, coz all the multi-monitor options are ghosted out [inactive], & manually trying to see an alternative to the lappy's own screen fails in that only that screen is listed; the external monitor is clearly not being sensed.

The same failure happens on a large old Plasma tv, with a different HDMI cable.

I like mucking about with software, but i'm simply useless with hardware.

What's the easiest and most readily available way to do a voice call with occasional screensharing between Linux and Windows?

I need it for gaming sessions with my brother. The screen sharing is mostly just games that Steam won't Remote Play. Not to fake remote play but so that I can show things like new games or MtG drafting sessions, because Steam on Linux won't broadcast either.

macOS Sarcoma's Screen Sharing has decided that when I connect to my main computer that has two screens, the second screen will be black. In addition, the cursor won't move, and I have to fight to get the insertion point into the password box on the login screen. So yeah, about par for Sarcoma—Apple's flakiest OS in ages.

Can Microsoft #Teams not imagine that you would want to share your screen in a meeting for any reason other than showing a presentation?

I share my screen multiple times per day (we're a fully remote team, so Teams is our communication medium), and I think I've shown a presentation maybe one time out of ten thousand.

No. We show code, or we go through Jira boards and open multiple tabs for different stories and epics we want to look at. All of which are at the top of the screen. Exactly where that infernal "You are sharing your screen" bar is. The bar that you cannot hide, and you cannot dock anywhere but the top of the screen.

So when I'm driving our planning sessions, I have to work around that by un-maximising (restoring) my browser window, and then moving and sizing it so that it's ALMOST maximised, but there's just enough space above it so the sharing bar doesn't hide my tabs.

Come on, #Microsoft. You can do better. :P

It's kinda funny when I accidentally share my #work #onenote on #screensharing, that people get panic over how much I have in it and refer to it as my second brain as I use it for planning, random notes, meeting notes, collecting important documents and other stuff.

Them: "You are very organized!"
Me: "Well, I have #ADHD, if I don't write it down it does not exist. So...."

Feature request for video meeting software.

Often when I’m using Teams for work videos, colleague1 is sharing their screen and colleague2 needs to “quickly share their screen” to show an real example of what colleague 1 is talking about theoretically.

Wouldn’t it be great if colleague2’s screen opened in a second tab, so the presenter could easily return to colleague1’s screen, flick between the two or even show both at the same time in a split?
