Seek has copied a recent change LinkedIn made, and has decided to use your personal data for AI training. Presumably, this includes your CV / Resume / professional work history and other private information.

The fine print in the Privacy Policy says they're going to use your data for Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning. The outgoing version of the Privacy Policy makes no mention of AI / ML. It's happening to all users / customers by default, there's no opt-out, and if you disagree with the change then they tell you to delete your account.

The announcement came in an innocuous-looking email about updates to the Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions that will happen on the 31st of October 2024. This affects people in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. But, not in the EU, where they have laws against this sort of thing.

Ok, good people who use the ever-cool "Seek" app (and thank you all for the recommendation!): If I try to enter a photo for observation and it doesn't immediately locate it, but gives me a couple of species to choose between, and I select the right one... what then? It doesn't add the sighting as an observation, and there doesn't seem to be a button for "Yes, this is the right species, go."

Trying some easy ones, like the cottontail and white-tailed deer in my yard, but it's not working.

Grateful for any and all help. This is just in #seek not yet an iNaturalist account. Thanks!

#Seek ist schlechter geworden, oder? Habe zuletzt kaum noch einfache Pflanzen bestimmen können und gerade mit ein paar Tieren probiert: Ziegen sind Fledermäuse, Wildschweine Schildkröten und Nutria werden als Enten erkannt 🫣

@stefano thank you!

So, it seems that reindexing did resolve the issue.

I wonder: if you had not received a hint from a human, would there ever have been a hint from a system?

It'll be the pleasure of a future restorer, not me and my clumsy hooves, to delicately clean and make good. Here: a photograph of a Philips 520A as it might appear in a dust-free utopia, followed by a photo of my 1949 model (Philips 520A/15, MM 2884) — with #catsofmastodon Pickle investigating the loudspeaker compartment, on a rare occasion when I turned the back away from the wall. Maybe 112 or 115 guineas when new, around twice the cost of a commonplace Bush TV22. Mine is reportedly "… a Mitcham design, probably the first one after the difficulties with the design of television receivers at Mitcham and the clash with Eindhoven. …". If I'm very lucky, it'll end up in the hands of a restorer as dedicated and skilled as Heptode. The forest floors are a riot of colour at the moment. I know the orange peel fungus but the others are a mystery to me, I just enjoy finding them. The #seek app, always a good place to start, takes me as far as the agaricomycetes for both, which is not overly useful I know but sounds better than just saying "mushroom" 🍄 🙂 Any opinions welcome 🙂
