Going big for this week's and adding a content warning because this is not subtle!

Originally from Clonmel, she now lives in the National Museum in Dublin. Her fingers are dug into her gaping vulva but she doesn't look happy. She looks absolutely raging 🤣

A fairly well-preserved sheela-na-gig on the medieval church in Killinaboy (Irish: Cill Iníne Baoith "Church of the daughter of Baoth")

On the gable wall there's a Lorraine cross – an unusual feature in Ireland – and behind the ruin is the stump of a round tower

Today we bring you a in the poshest location in Ireland?
This Sheela lives in the basement of the Cashel Palace hotel, Co Tipperary. Illuminated with spotlights, befitting her faded brilliance 😍

Like magic eye pictures, the longer you look at a Sheela the more is revealed. Focus on her big ears, then follow the outline of her arms down to the groove of her vulva

Spotted on City Quay, Dublin! Looks like she's lost her arms and three of her corners but she's looking pretty chill and her hands are still clutching open that gorgeous blue vulva 😍

Stoneybatter is *the* place to go for fake Sheela na Gigs. Placed on sites of historic misogyny by a guerrilla art project, these Sheelas are tiny. There's a tucked away one on the wall of Grangegorman (near The Barbers pub) and a more brazen one on the gate of Arbour Hill. There was another one on Collins Barracks but it's disappeared 😕

It's Fake Sheela Friday! Dublin doesn't have many authentic Sheela na Gigs (apart from in the National Museum) but it's dripping with fake ones. A🧵

A fake Sheela sits on the tower of St Mary's Church in Crumlin, put there by a FÁS scheme in the early 90s apparently. We'd love to know why! We'd also like to see more FÁS courses putting Sheelas on buildings 😍

Who's in the mood for a this morning?
This beauty at Behy, Co Sligo is said to bestow fertility so women have rubbed her vulva for generations. You can see where the paint has been rubbed away. It's unusual for a Sheela to be painted but maybe hers is just remarkably well-preserved. Probably cos she lives in a shed guarded by a brown bull!
We visited this Sheela on one of our trips

C'mon. I'm not asking for "with ice cream" and "at Dublin zoo" variants.

Yet.

Self explanatory. Y'know this one'll get use.

If you stand really far away gardeners can pretend it means "rockery".
