Next year the #Perseids meteor shower will coincide with the day of the New Moon. There will be a total #SolarEclipse in Iceland and Spain on August 12, 2026. I'm intrigued if it might be possible to see Perseids meteors during eclipse totality. However, solar eclipse totality only darkens to twilight, which is not ideal for meteor watching. It would also need some luck to happen at all. https://eclipsophile.com/tse2026/ #astronomy #SolarEclipse2026
Alaska Airlines choices of new routes for the 787 Dreamliners they got with the Hawaiian Airlines acquisition seems to concur with what they said that they've been asking customers what they want. Initially Pacific Ocean routes for Hawaiian are to Asia. Then Alaska's transatlantic route announcements to Rome, then London & Reykjavik.
Why Reykjavik? My hunch is the August 2026 total #SolarEclipse in Iceland may have played a part in that choice. #aviation #travel #avgeek #astronomy #Eclipse2026
Planning ahead to August 2026, I booked a hotel in Iceland for the eclipse. Crazy how so many places in the path of totality are already fully booked! #Travel #SolarEclipse #Wanderlust
Seeing the planets move *in real time* was so special it gets me wondering about eclipse-chasing again already...my capture from last year's eclipse in Indiana, "Atmospheres".
Okay, two solar eclipses side-by-side in such perfect totality at the same time strains credibility even on a cosmic scale...but that only means that every last one of us would be as this girl: enraptured in wonder at such a sight. My own artwork, "Girl gazing at binary solar eclipses".

"Éclipse d'orage" cette nuit sur une Lyon chargée à bloc d'humidité et de chaleur non-dissipée...
Excellent moment donc (si si) pour revenir aux éclipses solaires et lunaires adoptées et portées par leurs nouvelles propriétaires !
Les regards sont à la hauteur de l'image : rêveur et lointain d'une part, protégé des éclats de lumière brutaux de la couronne solaire de l'autre. Merci à vous deux

Hmm I'd be stupid not to go to Namibia while this is going on: total solar eclipse, then a Skeleton Coast road trip, then safari in Botswana would be just the thing...

"Today, the European Space Agency’s Proba-3 mission unveils its first images of the Sun’s outer atmosphere – the solar corona. The mission’s two satellites, able to fly as a single spacecraft thanks to a suite of onboard positioning technologies, have succeeded in creating their first ‘artificial total solar eclipse’ in orbit."

Two European satellites mimic a total solar eclipse as scientists aim to study its corona.
The satellites have created the first artificial solar eclipse by flying in precise formation, providing hours of on-demand totality for scientists.
Dubbed Proba-3, the €181 million mission has generated 10 successful solar eclipses so far.
ESA released the eclipse pictures at the Paris Air Show on Monday.
The best artificial Total #SolarEclipse ever, delivered by ESA's #Proba3 spacecraft duo of which one carries the telescope while the other plays Moon - this allows imaging the solar #corona closer to the photosphere than any other coronagraph: https://www.esa.int/Enabling_Support/Space_Engineering_Technology/Proba-3/Proba-3_s_first_artificial_solar_eclipse
