@blueluma #privacy and #security are inherently intertwined.

  • Anything that reduced privacy also reduces security and every good security system will have privacy not nust as a cornerstone, but foundation.

There is no legitimate reason to demand any #PII when there's neither legal mandate (i.e. #KYC / #AML) nor risk of fraud (i.e. #prepaid services).

Why should we rent the essentials of daily life we already own? Paywalling them behind monthly fees is absurd.

Imagine being told your stove won’t cook dinner unless you’ve paid this month’s subscription, it’s the same scammy logic as locking the full performance of a car you already bought behind a monthly fee.

Enshittification is just corporations selling you the same thing twice, and calling it ‘innovation.’

So if you bought a $2500 #XPeria phone AND a $1000-$4000 #SonyAlpha camera…

AND you were using those devices in combination?

Yeah… that's clearly you freeloading and #Sony has to charge you more! /s

So now you'll need a $5/Month #subscription service to combine your bought hardware.

Can't make this stuff up! Any way you can say "fuck you" to your customers harder?

BTW: the software to pull camera images onto phones is still crap. It was crap in 2015, it was crap in 2020 and it is crap now.

They didn't fix the many bugs in all those years. They changed name and added more data collection (Just love that friggin 20 questions survey needed to install that shit). But they didn't fix the bugs. Yay!

I'm sure I wouldn't want to pay monthly for that kind of quality.

Sony now charges a subscription to use expensive Xperia phones as camera monitors

Sony has become something of a bit player in the smartphone space in recent years, but the company continues to offer a handful of models in select markets, including premium models like the Sony Xperia 1 VII that combine a high-end display, processor, and audio hardware with an extraordinary high price tag: while Sony doesn’t sell this phone in the US, it has a £1,399 (~$1870) starting price […]

@fuchsiii @puppygirlhornypost2 But on the other hand I literally had to find a #VoIP-Provider that does support T.38 #Fax and doesn't demand a "#business" #subscription" for that feature.

That being said fax being explicitly NOT included in any #Flatrate and thus costing the initiator (not necessarily initiator) of a connection money makes it a method with basically no #Spam as unlike #eMail it's too costly...

TransFem SpaceAmber :neodog_box: (@puppygirlhornypost2)germans fax each other memes

Just to let everyone know, I bought the rights to the #semicolon ( " ; " ). It is now a #subscription based service; you can pay as you go, or purchase an annual #license and save a few bucks.
So plan your 'winkies' and independent clause connections accordingly!
First billings will hit your inboxes Oct 1st. I look forward to serving you!

Fellow #Fediverse friends! Let's share our most unusual subscriptions and why we pay for them. Here's mine:

1. DogTV ($6.25/mo) - My dogs love it, though only one really watches!

2. QALY App ($6/mo) - Tracks ECG from my Apple Watch for heart issues. Anxiety makes me do it 😂. Later I'll share how big heart-anxiety I have.

3. Ivory ($2/mo) - Sleek Mastodon client for iPhone and iPad.

4. SleepWatch ($26/yr) - Helps me keep tabs on my sleep patterns.

5. Infuse ($12/yr) - Seamlessly connects Jellyfin to my Apple TV.

What's your weirdest subscription?
Copilot, ChatGPT, or anything else - no judgment! Excited to hear your picks!

The era of subscriptions for everything?

Music subscription (Apple, Spotify etc). Subscription to social networks (Meta, X). Subscription to Messenger (Telegram Premium, Viber Plus etc). Sneaker subscription (On.com). Subscription for car seat heaters. What's next?

I found it hard to accept that the whole world was immersed in a subscription form of payment. You cannot own anything anymore; once your bank card runs out of money, you are cut off from the whole world.

You are immersed in a plethora of advertising. You can no longer use your programs; you are cut off from everything.

When did we take the wrong turn? When did a smartphone wallpaper app decide to become “big business” and just demand $10 a week? Why has this become the norm? 🥲

Supposed you were to build a public-interest-oriented company - e.g. a CSM (Community supported music coop) working in an analogous manner to a CSA but co-producing concerts instead of cabbage - from scratch and wanted to document the building process so that 1. many people wanted to chime in along the way & get involved and 2. many people could easily copy it later or somewhere else - how would you tackle this documentation?

@StarkRG nodds in agreeement In a #classroom-like #setup we'd more likely see some centralized, self-hosted #managment solution like #Landscape or #RustDesk being used.

  • I can see why they did this: It's clearly inspired by tools like #AnyDesk and I do have to applaud them for that.

And if this acts similar to #WebCall and merely acts as a "Rendrevous-Server" then traffic and thus costs should be quite low.

I'd still hope they #OpenSource the #Backend so that there's another competitor to #Dayon and #RustDesk available...

  • In the meantime just setting up a sudo admin user with #Pubkey-only auth on #SSH is likely the way to do some admin stuff.

Maybe one day @RaspberryPi will even add #PXE - #NetBoot capabilities to their #RaspberryPi and thus allow for #DisklessWorkstation - Setups, saving a crapton on #MicroSD cards that are prone to get lost and/or stolen...

I have been struggling with getting #halflife in #wine working and it's really one of the biggest (#gaming and investigation) problems I have had for a while.

It is grating on me - really quite hard - how much discussion about Half-Life ends "get it on #Steam".

No, alright? Because how I am taking those comments is: "you know that that thing you bought? You should buy the version that is slightly different, with extra rules by the distributor, where your play time is recorded, and your access can be removed on a whim by the #subscription service".
