Retro electronic music (2018)
More violin. This time I've applied the new design to my Surge Storm track, so here's the snippet with the violin solo. It also includes my Surge Grand Piano v49.
I'm pleased that the new instrument has tightness and controllability, which lets me throw more virtuoso action into it.
I might try some short snippets of difficult-to-play known pieces, as a further test, which might inform the design a bit more.
A new update is now available for the Waldorf Edition 2.
In addition to some bug fixes, we have also adapted the Attack plugin for the newer Apple computers. The much-loved drum plugin now runs in native mode without Rosetta.
The update 3.2.2 for Windows and macOS can be downloaded in your Waldorf account under "License Keys & Plug-In Downloads".
We live in an age of incredible numbers of things people have made yet there are loads of things I'd like to have or buy that don't exist and AFAICT never have.
Sadly most things people make are basically the same as some other thing someone made before.
I think of something that should exist but doesn't about twice a week at least.
Sometimes it's a whole new thing, sometimes its just an obvious (to me) tweak to an existing thing.
I have often thought it might be worth a whole mastodon account just tooting things that someone should make but no-one has.
Today's one is a Hammond Organ virtual instrument that supports microtuning. Preferably though MTS-ESP. I mean c'mon most synths do.
#LinuxAudio for musicians be like:
Aaah I found this cool sound in my #Waldorf #Rocket #Synthesizer, it uses the #Arpeggiator.
Now I want to try a beat with it. Oh there is #Hydrogen #DrumSampler on my #Linux system!
Oh *beep*, most drum kits don't work and I don't know why but I don't wont to figure that out now.
Managed to patch Hydrogen MIDI to my outboard synthesizer. Now how to send MIDI Clock? Oh Hydrogen cannot send MIDI clock.
I need jack_midi_clock to get MIDI Clock from the general Jack Transport. Installing.
Okay now I'm in GMIDImonitor to find out the jack_midi_clock does not send any MIDI Clock, at least not on my system of Pipewire+Jack. Or perhaps it does but I can't see, since the synth's arpeggiator stops when transport plays and continues playing when transport stops.
This is getting weird.
Now I have lost my idea for the drum pattern, so I'm giving up on making music for today. Time is very limited anyways.
Today I learned that @stargirl taught Tom Whitwell how to use KiCAD when he was working on the Music Thing Modular Workshop System #synthesizer
I'm jealous for both sides of that interaction.
More violin (synthesized). I've redesigned the body and given the pre-resonance of the strings a bit more attention.
Still more work to do, as some parts of the tone are not right yet.
Hat tip to Bear McCreary for original composition.

Another demo of the violins being whispery.
I modified an arrangement I made a few years ago. I probably don't do it justice.

I'm working on a violin.
Well, a 'physical model' of one. It's a patch for Surge XT synth, and I hope to do much better than my 2021 version. It's already much better, with an intimiate close-mic feel when played quietly.
This track plays the four open notes gently, then back to low G, with a strength on the edge of viability.
There's lots more do do, particularly with the character of the sound, the body, and so on. This is a start...
