I find it odd how trump keeps raving about all the incoming tariff money, but can't quantify it, and never offers suggestions on where that money is to be spent. So far it seems you got a ballroom, a petrified rose garden, and a second cutesy-named gulag in Indiana.

"These tariffs are both economic and geopolitical madness, but they are also giving the pro-democracy movement an extraordinary opportunity to tell the story of his betrayal of working Americans (higher prices, damage to small businesses, shifting the tax burden from the wealthy to everyday people)" (continued in /6)

@sekhen

Yes, but won't many people, including myself, tend to buy less as the price increases? BTW, my little coffee coop, Cafe Justo, has escaped the typical poverty trap for small coffee farmers by cutting out the middleman. They farm in Chiapas, roast in Agua Prieta, and then sell directly to the consumer! This brings their income from the typical 1.00 or so a pound to 9.00! I love fairtrade folks, but they're only able to pay 1.80 per pound to the farmers. #Tariffs are #Taxes

Analysis: "Trump's Tariffs Are Just Taxes by Another Name".

"Americans, not foreigners, pay them through higher prices."

Treas Sec Scott Bessent admitted that tariff checks come from American importers, not foreign sellers, & importers often pass the costs to consumers.

Trump's so-called “deals” with trading partners are mere power play, & the tariffs are starting to hurt the economy.

AR went from prosperous to pauper due to big #tariffs, nationalism & #autocracy.

🚨Scarily reminiscent of what we're doing right now. Add to mess petrostate energy policies that create electricity scarcity & raise prices.

AR🚨went completely off track bc of decisions made in a few years by an elected -thru a democracy: leader pursued autocracy rather than venerating #democracy -🚨should be a cautionary tale for everyone in the bus comm +involved in our pol process.”

"WH Policy Director Stephen Miller on Fox: 'The economy was on its deathbed when President Trump came into the Oval Office.'

… Elon Musk’s AI app Grok was asked if Miller’s quote was accurate: 'Based on key indicators, the economy performed strongly under Biden with average unemployment at 3.6% (2022-2023), inflation down to 2.4% by late 2024, and real GDP growth of 12.6% over his term.'"

@bazcook True about the cost increases, I felt that was implied with "inflated prices due to the #tariffs" and then "when the tariff dam breaks."

The point of my post is: My fear is once reasonable tariff policies are set again, and prices to business go down, companies are going to keep the prices up because we are willing to buy at higher prices. They do that in the US time and time again. With inflation, etc. When the eggs ran short and prices went sky high, they never lowered the prices back down to where they were when egg production was stable. This has happened to I don't know how many products and services over the years.

Also, some CEO's are bragging to their shareholders in shareholder meetings who are not affected by tariffs that they are raising their prices to match their competitors who are affected by them and had to raise their prices. One CEO said it was the source of their unexpected higher profits and why profit projections were so off. I posted about those before and even included clips of the video and audio once or twice from the shareholders meetings.
