july has already blown away the record for the total number of blockchain addresses seized/frozen by #Tether. one of the wallets with the highest lifetime value received (~$360 million) transacted with known Iranian wallets (specifically #Nobitex, the largest #crypto exchange in #Iran). my hunch is that a lot of these are iranian wallets frozen at the behest of #Netanyahu and co.

Jeffrey Epstein touched the cryptoverse in a lot of inappropriate places. While no one has yet found any kind of smoking gun tying #Epstein directly to the creation of any major #crypto firms or technologies the timing, nature, and frequency of Epstein’s touchpoints to an industry that more or less exists solely to facilitate #moneylaundering on the scale of a medium sized nation state coupled with his vast and unexplained wealth and many connections to international intelligence agencies is what the kids today commonly describe as “sus”.

#Tether just mass blacklisted 42 blockchain addresses in a single go - one of the biggest batches of blacklistings ever. All of the wallets were all on the Tron blockchain (AKA "the crime chain") which is owned and operated by a business partner of the president of the united states (Justin Sun).
The wallets only have $5.7 million USDT in them to seize but over their lifetimes they collectively received ~$877 million. Haven't really dug into the data yet but my hunch is that most of these are related to #Iranian money laundering and were frozen at #Israel's request.
Other possible explanation is the mass bust of #NorthKorea's american laptop farms a few days ago.

above and beyond the existing semi-ban they basically said if the USDT in your wallet has ever touched a money launderer / OTC desk they will seize all your money, full stop, do not pass go, do not collect 200 #USDT.
i found some court filings that detail one man's attempt to use the courts to force #Tether and other #cryptocurrency companies to give him back $3 million that was stolen from him.
spoiler: it didn't go well. the crypto companies used their standard defense of "#blockchain is open source so not our problem lol".
not only did he have to chase the crypto companies through multiple jurisdictions (#singapore, british virgin islands, etc), in the end i don't think he got any of his money back from the (probably) #Russian criminals who stole it.
a russian hosting service that takes payment in crypto, Aeza Group, was just hit with #OFAC sanctions.
they've sent funds to a bunch of the shadiest crypto exchanges - #Cryptomus, #MEXC, #Binance, and (of course) #HTX, the crypto exchange run by the business partner of the president of the united states.
also looks like they took payment in #Tether, the #stablecoin whose money is managed by america's secretary of commerce howard lutnick.

TRM Labs released some analysis of the #Nobitex source code that was leaked by an Israeli team that hacked the company (Nobitex is the largest #cryptocurrency exchange in #Iran and probably the largest crypto exchange anywhere to take such an extreme approach to hiding its own tracks (and its users' tracks).
of course they also hardcoded a bunch of auth keys into the source code... so maybe they weren't *that* privacy focused. or maybe they decided to do some "outsourcing" of the dev team (lol).

a few weeks ago right before #Israel attacked #Iran #Tether froze a #Tron wallet that had over the course of a year managed to receive almost $2 billion, at least $1.2 bn of which came from #Binance (which historically did huge business in Iran).
there was only $2.5 million in the wallet at the time of the freeze but in terms of how much money flowed through it, it's the 4th highest volume wallet ever frozen.
based on the fact that another wallet frozen ca. the same time w/similar usage patterns turned out to be linkable to #Hezbollah, the govt of #Iran, and a dark market for nation state sized orders of weapons & #drugs (#HuionePay / #HuioneGuarantee), I have a hunch this wallet was also used by the #IRGC to fund its proxies in the region like the #Houthis and #Hezbollah and #Israel has chosen not to disclose that it was responsible for the seizure yet.
