Thinking about future jobs and where to go, and I think #ThirdSector is really my best option for achieving good things that make a difference.
Not all third sector bodies are created equally for sure, but I think where I currently work has a heart and soul.
There's also a charity near my home with a heart and soul of a different kind.
This is where the two parts of my Mastodon handle (Coding Gardener) fit together. It's a nice dichotomy with balance.
If you're self-employed, freelance or in the third sector, obviously there's no #TradeUnion for you, right?
My #union, Community, has a broad mix of people employed in traditional and new industries, as well as #freelance, #SelfEmployed and #ThirdSector workers who want the security and support that only being a part of a union can bring. #MayDay

In a similar vein to my last post, this news is significant.
#Charity staff at Shelter unionised and negotiated a 7% pay rise + one off £1250 payment.
Now let’s say it once more… JOIN A UNION
All provision of labour must be valued, be it for social ‘good’ or not.

This articulates the moral conundrum of working in the third sector. All it’s missing is an intersectional critique of trustee influence on labour rights, activism, and service provision alike.
‘…charity acts as a “moral safety valve” that “normalises destitution and legitimates personal generosity as a response to major social and economic dislocation”.’

I know week notes are the typical format, but I’ve never been able to get into the habit. So instead, I’ve written year notes: a reflection on and round-up of my work in 2022.
The big takeways? I found my niche, walked an interesting line between content and service design, learnt to trust the process but reject the binary, and got a whole new perspective on my work when I accessed charity services myself.
@j2dw @dustin Great to see this server PublicGood.Social I'll start exploring it

@RyanHyde @robdyson @charityjen
Nice to meet you Ryan
It's early days here and I have to admit that I'm still trying to make sense of Mastodon but it's good to see discussions starting

I'm a zoologist by training who recently made the step over from the #conservation field to work as a #DataAnalyst supporting all sorts of wonderful #ThirdSector and #PublicSector organisations to use #data4good. I do things with #RStats and am also learning #Python.
As you might expect I am a #nature enthusiast, as well as being a keen #equestrian and adoring #cat owner.
