One small bit of positive family news today, was that I registed Kit the new Cat with the vet that we know & trust.
They were wonderful when we had Bob (the old cat) put to sleep and we've used them for many years.
We were worried about being able to use them because last autumn we knew they weren't takin on new patients - but there was no problem today.
Phew!
Mais ! Qu'est-ce que j'expliquais a un client avec l'aide de cette oeuvre d'art extemporanée ?

A friend of my friend is struggling to pay the vet bill for her dog (£3k). It you could donate anything, that would be super useful:
@DemocracyMattersALot As a #vet, I feel for all vets, especially disabled vets but some are just too far gone to help. The vet in this story came back disabled, used his #GIBill to become the first in his family to graduate from college, got a #federal job that accommodated him so he could provide for his family. Then, he voted for #MAGAmoron and believes the country and govt betrayed him. He seems to have failed the college class on #CriticalThinking.
One thing that came up with Edraith's seizure on Monday is the nasal injection (called thusly, but uses an extended syringe not a needle to spray the med into her nose) she absolutely hated. She started to come out of it when used, but then when it seemed to worsen again in about 20 seconds and attempted to administer a second dose (as prescribed to do) she panicked and while a full general seizure tried to stand up to run away. Not good! We obviously didn't force it and quickly set it aside to work on calming her instead.
Today she went into a small focal seizure. This may be a pattern unfolding of a small focal seizure a few days later. Anyway, we opted to not use the nasal injection. But to prepare for next time, I have emailed my vet to ask what liquid would be safe to practice this procedure with.
This is part of Cooperative Care. Is there a proceedure your dog hates? There are many things you can do.
1. Using start buttons ex: chin rest means I stand calm while exam is done, if I'm uncomfortable I remove my chin to ask for a pause
2. Setting up events in a known fashion; ex: my cousin's service dog sniffs syringes for vaccines first so she knows what is next (and then doesn't even need restrained at all since she is not surprised!)
3. Desensitize / Counter Condtion; ex: somewhere your dog doesn't like being touched, or a way they don't like it? You can ease them into things so they get used to it; ex: shape touching a nail clipper sitting on the floor, then shape tapping their paw with it, then nail with it, etc. until you can build up to a single clip. Each step being small and easy, where the dog can leave at any time, empowers them to explore and feel safer.
So...since my pup is fine with syringe to nose, it's clearly the sensation of fluid sprayed into the nose causing the issue, and we need to be able to simulate that safely and in non stressful manner, while creating a standard pattern for how this works so she is not surprised in the future.
You owe this type of work to your dog. They deserve to have autonomy, to tell you they are scared, and to have a human to help them through it in a safe and caring manner.
