For #Findsfriday, we have a find from the #Roman #massgrave in #Vienna, #Simmering. It consists of several scales of Roman #scalearmour, also known as lorica squamata. Scale armour appears in our region from the year 100, influenced by #cavalry #soldiers from the east of the empire.
What is particularly interesting is that the scales from the Hasenleitengasse have square perforations - unusual, as these holes are normally round

This week's #ThursDeath is one I've been listening to this week in anticipation of their debut LP.

Vienna, Austria's FESSUS have promised their first full length this year, and from the sound of this 2023 demo 'Pilgrims of Morbidity', it's gonna be killer.

Fessus are crushing, riffy, cavernous, an old school feel-- just how I likes it.

Today, the first exciting findings of our #excavation project in collaboration with the Urban #Archaeology Department of the City of #Vienna were presented at the #WienMuseum. But there is a big team behind this #research!
Over the next days, we would like to introduce you to some of our dedicated employees and their tasks in more detail. Stay tuned for a look behind the scenes of #archaeological work!

Over a decade ago, a generous grant by the Vienna Science and Technology Fund (wwtf.at) led me back to my home country Austria. Since then, I've been working at TU Wien on formal methods to make software and hardware more reliable and secure.

Meanwhile, for researchers across the world times have become more challenging and darker. Here in Vienna, on the other hand, the conditions for science and research have actually improved significantly in recent years. I'm confident that this will continue to be the case, and that significant efforts will be made to provide even better support for researchers. As a member of the Vienna research community, I will contribute to this. Because I enjoy living and researching in Vienna!
