Saustrup<p>Is your 40+ years old <a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/vintagecomputer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>vintagecomputer</span></a> suffering from ribbon cable bird's nest syndrome? Don't delay! Print my ribbon cable chassis connector housing thing today! 🙂 Also, be gentle - I'm new to <a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/3d" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>3d</span></a> :-)</p><p><a href="https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6953672" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="">thingiverse.com/thing:6953672</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p><a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/vintagecomputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>vintagecomputing</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/vintagerepair" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>vintagerepair</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/cpm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cpm</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/GeminiMicrocomputers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GeminiMicrocomputers</span></a></p>
Saustrup<p>It's been a while since I updated you on my <a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/vintagerepair" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>vintagerepair</span></a> project. Last time, I was knee deep in a Commodore PC50 III 386SX16, but things have gone a little out of hand since.</p><p>Shortly after I tasted the sweet, sweet flavor of success, I ordered a lot of 3 possibly dead <a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/IBM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>IBM</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/Aptiva" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Aptiva</span></a> system. Naturally they were exactly that - dead. One was missing a power supply and another had the wrong one. After a lot of work, I managed to get the beefiest system running - a <a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/Pentium" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Pentium</span></a> 133. The work is ongoing, and has so far involved ordering weird cable adapters from Germany, washing motherboards in the dishwasher and sourcing an original power supply from the US. Pro tip - if you're ever considering collecting desktop Aptivas, don't. They're incredibly difficult to get parts for, and - so far - pretty tricky to bring back from the dead.</p><p>And the BIOS is in Swedish.</p><p>If you're curious about the progress, you can follow my thread over at <a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/Vogons" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Vogons</span></a>: <a href="https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?t=102881" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">vogons.org/viewtopic.php?t=102</span><span class="invisible">881</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/vintagecomputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>vintagecomputing</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/pc" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pc</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/at" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>at</span></a></p>
Saustrup<p>The <a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/Enterprise" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Enterprise</span></a> repair adventure continue. 10 ICs were replaced with sockets, ICs tested and resocketed. One was faulty. Shows graphics when booted but very unstable. Also, had a bit of a discussion about the two 74LS147 that are somehow responsible for memory addressing. On one of my other Enterprises, they used 74LS148 which are inverted (or the other way around). My thoughts were that if memory is only addressed through them, it doesn't matter is the address(?) are inverted - sure it will use another physical part of the memory chips, but the logical address space should be exactly the same, no? Just thoughts from a guy who knows very little about <a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/TTL" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TTL</span></a> logic. </p><p><a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/vintagecomputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>vintagecomputing</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/z80" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>z80</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/vintagerepair" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>vintagerepair</span></a></p>
Saustrup<p>Holy shit! My <a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/TL866II" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TL866II</span></a> Plus can test ICs. I just found a broken 74153 on one of my <a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/Enterprise" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Enterprise</span></a> computers. Looks like there is still hope for a successful repair.</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/vintagecomputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>vintagecomputing</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/z80" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>z80</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.dk/tags/vintagerepair" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>vintagerepair</span></a></p>
