“I support a system in which the president would appoint a justice every 2 yrs to spend 18 yrs in active service on the #SupremeCourt.

“3rd, I’m calling for a binding #CodeOfConduct for the Supreme Court. This is common sense. The court’s current #voluntary #ethics code is weak & #SelfEnforced. Justices should be required to disclose gifts, refrain from public political activity & recuse themselves from cases in which they or their spouses have financial or other #ConflictsOfInterest.

In March, a small #nonprofit in #BritishColumbia cut 10 cheques worth approximately $5,500 each & hand delivered them to as many #FirstNations on southern #VancouverIsland. The money, collected in the second half of 2023, is the first annual installment of #voluntary #rents paid by residents & business owners who live & work on the First Nations’ homelands.

The #SouthIslandReciprocityTrust is the brainchild of Craig Candler.

On May 7 #BCgovernment #MinistryOfForests announced the launch of a new #Forest Operations #Map (FOM) portal where #BritishColumbians can now access & comment on proposed operations, including #cutblocks & #roads, after amendments to Forest & Range Practices Act #FRPA.

Though the majority of #forestry companies in #BritishColumbia have committed to presenting their proposed operations in the #FOMportal, the project is currently #voluntary, the press release stated.

I didn't know this #employer behaviour was #legal. #Staff who worked extra hours unpaid (no overtime pay) but when they demanded #fairpay & didn't get it, they reduced their work by 10%. For this they were docked 100% of pay. I was flabbergasted to read that the 90% the #workers did was considered to be #voluntary by the #university. Of course, they weren't told that in advance. I've seen very professional #events by the #London #Excel #Meetup group, the Global Excel Summit, etc, but they don't have staff or budget for that. Maybe #Youtube or #Meetup have something easy? With a mobile phone and external mic? Wifi or fixed line internet?
