I had a picture ready for #WildlifeWednesday but then I went out to the local park today and spotted this scene of 2 northern water snakes and a broadhead skink all hanging out together!

I couldn't decide between #WildlifeWednesday or #WaterfallWedneday, so I'm going for both
Columbian ground squirrel near Field, BC, on the left; a waterfall I can't recall the name of at Silver Falls State Park in Oregon on the right.
A pied bat to pretty up your timeline
Painted this in 2022 after seeing pictures of a pied butterfly bat for the first time. I still really like the atmosphere of this piece, but I think I could have painted the bat's face better.
On my afternoon walk, I thought I saw one of the plastic predator bird statues on a suburban fence. Wrong. It was an actual hawk, probably waiting for a rabbit to appear.
I'm guessing from size and color it is a red-shouldered hawk. Also, there is a deciduous forest and river nearby - their favorite haunt.
A Black Bear (Ursus americanus) snacking on dandelions in the spring at Manning Provincial Park in British Columbia. This bear was eating these flowers as quickly as it could - like a selective lawn mower.
While camping near Polychrome Pass in early May, I watched this young Dall sheep square off with two Gyrfalcons on a bluff. They held their ground. The sheep thought better of it.

"F-F-F-Food... Please..."
For #WildlifeWednesday here are some Brandt's Cormorants — namely, an adult with its naked chicks in the nest, one begging for food. What a struggle! Photographed recently at La Jolla Cove here in San Diego.

Looked out the window yesterday afternoon and spotted this jewel. Grabbed my long lens so I could share with you.
Today's #WildlifeWednesday picture is a turkey vulture showing off its beautiful wingspan.
Their wingspans can grow up to 6 feet and while we see them in the sky a lot, they aren't the most graceful flyers, they use thermals to glide around and search for food.
When is a chickadee not a chickadee? When it's a great tit! Saw a flash of black and yellow fluttering in the trees, and while my initial wondering was "chickadee?" something in me recognized that the yellow was a bit *too* yellow for that to be right. It's not surprising they could be mistaken for each other at first glance; chickadees and tits are part of the same bird family, Paridae. (Sibiu, Romania)
For #WildlifeWednesday a nice flock of Cattle Egrets with a Cormorant, in morning fog at Lake Hodges in Rancho Bernardo, California.
A bull caribou shedding its winter coat in the Primrose area of Denali National Park. Its antlers are just beginning to grow, still covered in velvet, and tufts of fur cling to its side as it moves through spring tundra brush.

This male mallard was really digging into the mud! Maybe it was having a spa day, and the mud helps keep their green head colorful and iridescent!
Mud is a big part of their diet as they have plant material and small organisms like worms and snails.
