Is sick pay one more area where the UK's rubbish management produces inefficient & productivity reducing managerial policies because managers are unable to think clearly about staff rights.... looking at research from the TUC on the likely gains for business (with in reducing lost days & increasing productivity of workers) from Labour's proposal(s) to enhance sick pay, it would be difficult not to come to that conclusion....

As Zoe Williams suggests the rise of AI across the labour market will actually enhance the importance of 'connections' (who you know & the need to network), but of course what this really mens is the networks formed during early life will be increasingly important, and those formed in elite educational establishments (from private schools to top universities) will continue to be a barrier to those excluded by circumstance from such networks.

If education (across a range of skills & knowledge) is how to ensure the maximisation of opportunity across a working life, then the educational disengagement of 16-19 year olds from deprived backgrounds is likely just one more barrier to any potential 'social mobility' away from childhoods patterned by poverty.

Further Education is a key route to a better working life, but remains under-funded & hobbled in its ability to counter such disengagement

My workplace hires a few new forklift drivers every year. Normally, 20 to 30 candidates show up for 4 or 5 positions.

This week? A stunning 160 by 8 am. That's an extravagant number. Too early in the day for the latest TikTok trend, .

No notable recent private sector layoffs in the area. "Reasonable" max commute distance of about 20 miles.
