all of which leads me to ask, what words this got mangled FROM to make this word... and if it's deise, that includes what language were those words IN. Do you know?
@Antiqueight @theirishfor from Focloir.ie, the Irish for snail is seilide, so that might be the first bit. Maybe the last bit is from púca.

It's odd that a colloquial term for snail is effectively snail-goblin.
@IanMoore3000 especially when it's usually said with a certain degree of fondness... as a child it was 'cute' "look at the wee snail-goblin" my mammy would say... so to speak...
@Antiqueight I read on Wikipedia that the Púka isn't always seen as threatening and in the traditions of some localities is seen as benevolent, so maybe it's more like pixie-snail.
