Not only is it necessary for Europe to take its defence into its own hands, no longer able to trust an unreliable former partner, the bonus is that it takes money away from the American arms industry.
I'm not generally in favour of war or military action, but neither can we just sit and wait to be invaded or controlled by another country.
So far Ukraine has had to fight a war alone, sacrificing its own citizens in defence of the whole of Europe. This has to change.
