In November 2022 I left Twitter and have been using Mastodon quite regularly ever since... Not sure if I'm going about this in the "correct" way - very little engagement on here. Is it just me? Am I in the wrong instance? Any tips? #IrishTwitter #TwitterExodus #Mastodonie #Neurodivergent #ADHD #immigrant #artist #CrossCultural #designer
@GurgelSegrillo I am getting more engagement here than I am on Twitter rn
@alisca that's great!
@GurgelSegrillo
I think there’s about to be a whole lot more since probably millions of people can’t use Twitter anymore.
This has to be the dumbest thing musk has ever done with $44 million.
I have to admit, I’m kind of Jonesin. But I think it’s a good thing in the end. Twitter became a rabbit hole of negativity.
@GurgelSegrillo I use my mobile for Mastodon. Getting the right app for me really helped. So on my current app (Metatext) I can swipe between TL tabs easily: my own, local and federated. If one TL is quiet, one might have something of interest. As you said, time of day makes a difference and hashtags are really vital. I also found following more people helped. Once I was following over 1,000 here, interaction really picked up. Hang in there.
@MarkMaguire thank you, much appreciated
I went and had a look at your follow list and scrolled down. Sure enough there's at least one person who posted in 2022.
Generally if someone has left 3 months (90 days) between posts, I assume they're gone, or mostly on Twitter, and stop following them. This means that I can say about 500 people means you always have something to discover. I'd like to keep it to 400 or below so I can properly think about them all but that's not really possible.
@Homebrewandhacking @MarkMaguire great suggestions!! thank you!
@GurgelSegrillo It’s a tough one, all right; very little engagement here too (though I’m not here for that, and wasn’t on Twitter either). I don’t think being on ‘the right instance’ matters so much as finding and following the community you want. (My main interests simply don’t have a presence here as far as I can tell, which doesn’t help)
@MacDara @GurgelSegrillo agree with you 100% on that, finding your interest groups are key, also the fact it's a real time network means that unless someone has you in a list or with a notification, posts can be like ships in the night!
@rainercade @MacDara exactly! the time we post makes more of a difference...
@MacDara yes, and so my scattered interests probably don't help
@GurgelSegrillo I'm not sure what is "correct" here, but I have found some success in finding conversations by following relatively narrow interest/issue-based hashtags, #adhd in case of your toot. Also I keep an eye on #followfriday to find recommendations of connections I can make.
@aldente oooh thank you, I keep forgetting to use the followed hashtags function more. Will keep an eye on follow Friday :-)
