Attempt to order take out this evening. My options included:
Vegan Chicken Curry
Soy-based vegan chicken curry with onions, carrots, broccoli and mixed pappers.
Or
Vegan Chicken Chow Mein
Vegan Chicken Rice
Um... is this Vegan or Not Vegan?? Help??
@Antiqueight I suspect you're getting vegan faux meat in all those options. I'm not a big fan of faux meat (would rather eat vegan/vegetarian food that tasted of vegan/vegetarian things), but any port in a storm.
@IanMoore3000 I too do not chose things with faux meat - which is why I am eating from a different place... But also, it didn't SAY that there was faux meat etc...
I don't know what the norm is over there, but around here when they say "Vegan [meat] dish," they 100% mean faux meat. The vegan modifier is supposed to make that clear.
@WearsHats Ah... I did not know that. I 100% do not want faux meat.
@Antiqueight The problem is they don't specify what kind of faux meat it is. Lab-grown? Powdered bean slurry? Tofu cubes cooked in the style of chicken?
20 years ago, my sister had her graduation party at a vegan Chinese restaurant just so my grandfather would be able to attend. He saw "pork" on the menu and said "I'll have a salad." We explained it wasn't really pork, and showed him the seal on the menu, but it wasn't until the chef came out with the Kosher certification that he would eat.
@WearsHats I would be with him on that - you put pork on the menu, I assume there is pork on the menu. I don't want faux meat but at least CALL it faux meat (of whatever variety it is).
