I thought I knew who would be on Friday’s ballot paper from looking at posters on poles, and from leaflets through the letterbox (only one candidate has turned up in person). But using #WhichCandidate I realised about a 1/3 of the candidates in my constituency are unpreferrable to me in every way, and about 3 or 4 were unknown to me. WhichCandidate helped me make a plan for Friday #IrePol #IrishPol #GE2024 #DBN #Mastodaoine #GE24 #IrelandVotes

I did go through this, but it didn't really yield any new insights for me. I live in a 4-seater but one of our TDs is Ceann Comhairle so is automatically returned.
Two seats will go to FF/FG, that's just how it is.
That leaves everyone else fighting for one seat.
My first five preferences will actually be in order of preference for those individuals, but will also ensure the maximum transfers for my vote.
I suppose I'm not voting "tactically" in the sense that my order of preference is genuine.
I also have a vote in the UK and there I had to vote tactically for the Liberal Democrats just to make sure we didn't get a Tory MP.
@ratcatcher It’s more open in DBN due to the established incumbent FF, FG and Labour TDs retiring or going to EU parliament. Their replacements aren’t well known across the constituency. I’m fairly certain SocDems are ok but given the rioting around the IPA centre in the constituency and the results in Council elections, SF can’t take things for granted. There are a lot of far-right candidates running, A LOT, and the 1st place you will see most of them is in the polling booth.
I find it hard to be hopeful about this election. Almost certainly we will see another FF/FG coalition, with or without a junior partner or a few indies. So more centre-right laissez faire status quo government with a few minor improvements in climate and socially progressive legislation (maybe).
The main litmus test is whether support for fascism has increased or decreased. Obviously I hope the latter.
@MarkMaguire I would take those surveys with a pinch of salt.
I started going through that one, and checked behind the curtain.
The SF/SD answers that are standard sitting-on-the-fence positions are counted as "Agree", but the very similar PBP/Aontu/LAB answers are "Neither agree nor disagree"
The PBP rep was the only one to point out the false dichotomy
