There is an open letter on BlueSky moderation practices as they apply to Gazans which I was invited to sign.
I have been feeling pretty helpless so I read the letter. It was very balanced and reasonable. The asks are not- as I saw them being misrepresented as immediately- to allow anyone who says they are in Gaza to post anything.
Rather they are, amongst other things, that emails in Arabic be sent when Trust & Security moderates an account, so that recipients can understand how platform rules have been breached.
Given the extremity of the situation, this seems like an aggressively moderate ask.
@Tupp_ed At some point, it does seem like Bluesky users who care about Palestine are going to have to be honest with themselves about the people running the platform. When I checked it out, I saw a lot of metaphors on there about substack, for instance, being a Nazi bar and how you can't unNazi a Nazi bar by going there and buying drinks and inviting your friends, you just become an enabler of Nazis. Kind of feels like Bluesky is a similar bar.
